🦖✨ NEW ART RABBIT HOLE ✨🦖
Over the Christmas break I was introduced to Warhammer by my husband and a friend — a tabletop miniatures wargame where players choose a faction, build an army to a points limit, and play very long, very rule-heavy battles (the rules truly deserve their own galaxy).
Players collect units and heroes, assemble them, and paint them in their war colours — all while learning lore, battlefield roles, and abilities for each model.
The moment I saw the figures and the build + paint process, my inner art magpie was DONE.
Naturally, I announced:
“Moose, I want my own army.”
Off to the Warhammer shop we went.
I’d already been deep-diving online, but I was choosing purely through the lens of:
what would be cool to paint my way?
Not lore. Not tactics. Not winning.
Just art gremlin energy.
Because I don’t actually want to play, I get to cherry-pick from any faction across any Warhammer system (40K, Age of Sigmar, etc).
A dangerous freedom.
Which brings us to…
Dinosaurs riding dinosaurs.
These are my Aggradon Lancers from the Seraphon faction.
Dinosaurs called Seraphon felt cosmically correct given my name — Sarah — so obviously they were coming home with me.
Then came the paint.
Not tube paint (which I already hoard), but Citadel acrylics made specifically for model painting.
Suddenly I’m learning about bases, contrasts, shades, layers, dry brushing, and technical paints — a whole new painting language and I’m obsessed.
And don’t even get me started on the bases — that’s a future obsession. Hence the bare bases for now.
What I love most is that you can:
• paint exactly to the lore
• tweak colours slightly
• or throw the rulebook out and make them completely yours
Guess which path I chose.
Over the break, our dining table became shared art stations, with Warhammer YouTube battles rolling in the background.
Painting tiny details puts my brain into that perfect flow state where information quietly sneaks in.
So — here they are.
My first ever painted models.
Dinosaurs riding dinosaurs.
Rainbow. Sparkly. Cartoon eyes.
Entirely, unapologetically, me. 🌈✨
