My Italian Neighbour

My Italian Neighbour Ultra-premium extra virgin olive oil. Organically farmed and hand picked in Kangaroo Ground, Naarm (Melbourne).

MIN - My Italian Neighbour is a micro producer of small batch, extra virgin olive oil from Kangaroo Ground, Melbourne. With full control from the grove to the press and utilising minimal intervention methods, our cold-pressed, unfiltered oils brilliantly express the lands from which they came. The grove is a modest 500 trees, set on volcanic slope of land in Kangaroo Ground, a small township of ju

st over 1000 residents 26km north east of Melbourne. Named after the abundance of kangaroo grass that was found in the area prior to colonisation, large populations of kangaroos would graze on the grasses and provided an ongoing food source for the Wurundjeri people who resided there.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁: made from ultra-premium Manzanillo olives picked earliest in the season, when fruits are young and vibrant. With a much lower yield, oils are deep olive green in colour and concentrated in flavour. Expect a silky texture, fruity notes and flavours with a punchy peppery kick.

Best used for; dipping in fresh crusty sourdough, salads and finishing dishes.

𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁: made from ultra-premium Manzanillo olives picked mid-season, when the fruits are an even mixture of green and purple hues. A fruitier oil with a milder peppery flavour.

Best used for; dips, salads, pesto, cooking.

𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁: Made from a blend of ripe, green/purple Manzanillo and Kalamata olives, this oil has bright fruity notes and a subtle flavour profile. A delicious all rounder workhorse for your salad, dips and cooking needs.

All our oils come in 250ml bottles. If you can't decide or would like to try the lot, we also offer a pack of all 3 for a cute discount!

The MIN olive grove sits atop the summit of Garden Hill, a rich, black soil area that is rumoured to be a small, extinct volcano. Though active until 8000 years ago, Victoria's volcanism peaked about 50 million years ago when the continents were separating and western Victoria began developing as one of the Earth's largest basalt plains.

These fertile and well-draining soils make an ideal location for growing plant life. Victor (our Italian neighbour) planted the 500 olive trees we now harvest in February and November of 2000. The 2021 yield consists of 2 varieties across 3 harvests - Manzanillo, a versatile Spanish olive; and Kalamata, named for the city in the southern Peloponnese, Greece.

My Italian Neighbour olive oil is grown and pressed in Kangaroo Ground, a small township of just over 1000 residents 26km north east of Melbourne. Named after the abundance of kangaroo grass that was found in the area prior to colonisation, large populations of kangaroos would graze on the grasses and provided an ongoing food source for the Wurundjeri people who resided there.

Our grove is a modest 500 trees on a volcanic slope of land that traditionally belongs to the Wurundjeri-willam people of the Woiwurrung language group of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and pay our respects to elders past and present.
