The calendar tells us it's only a few weeks until spring down here in Melbourne. But the view outside our window tells a different story! Rainy, cold wintry weather abounds today and on the forecast.

I'd definitely rather be here on the Phi Phi islands in Thailand... While that's not feasible right now, I'm inclined to schedule a Destination Date Night to Thailand this weekend eating some delicious Thai food, maybe even watching the Di Caprio classic, The Beach, set in the area. Have you watched it? 😎🏖️✈️

While some of you are experiencing a sweltering summer, we’ve been freezing over here down south. To cap it off, our heater stopped working last week and we shivered for a week until the problem could be rectified! 🥶

In the meantime, our feeds have been peppered with glamorous summery pics. 🏖️😎

Do you like to travel vicariously via books? In our stories yesterday we asked if anyone had been overseas post COVID. 100% of respondents said 'no'!

The 9th of August was Book Lover's Day. We love reading books, especially books that transport you to another place. Books where you can experience the sights, sounds and flavours of an exotic locale courtesy of the writer's skillful pen. This book delivered on that front and was great preparation for creating our Destination Date Night Lite kit for Cuba.

We celebrated a birthday in our household yesterday! So naturally piñatas came to mind... 😉

Piñatas are commonly associated with Mexico 🌎. The Spanish brought a similar European tradition to Mexico, although there were similar traditions in Mesoamerica. Today, the piñata is still part of Mexican culture, and also features in the cultures of other Latin American countries. 🎉

Making a piñata is a fun date night activity. There are some great, simple papier-mâché tutorials online. Have you ever made a piñata?

What are you having for breakfast? I wish this was on our menu. This is a picture of one of the most popular Mexican breakfast dishes, chilaquiles. 🌎

Chilaquiles are deep-fried tortillas soaked in a tomato or tomatillo sauce, topped with cream, grated cheese, and onion slices. Often they are served with a fried egg on top, shredded chicken, avocado and coriander.

I love learning about the depth of Mexican cuisine! I think we'll have to schedule a breakfast date with chilaquiles! 😋

Holy mole! Have you heard of mole sauce? If not you need to get some mole in your life!

Mole is a traditional sauce and marinade used in Mexican cuisine. There is a huge variety of different mole sauces originating from different parts of the country such as mole poblano, mole negro and mole rojo.

A mole sauce is a complex conglomeration of fruits, nuts, chili peppers, and spices like black pepper, cinnamon, and cumin. Some even feature chocolate! Traditionally the process of making mole is lengthy and laborious commencing with roasting and grinding the main ingredients.

We've created a cheat's version of a mole sauce for the recipe in our Destination Date Night kit for Mexico, serving it with some delicious tacos! It is divine. But don't take our word for it! 😋😉 Have you tried mole before?

Mexican food signals celebration in my world! I can feel the endorphins flooding my system as I gaze lovingly at a platter of tacos, nachos, burritos or enchiladas. During lockdowns over the last few years, we created a loose weekly system to differentiate each groundhog day from the next. And Mondays were all about Mexican food for our family. It was a fabulous way to start the week. I think it might be time to start bringing back Mexican Mondays... How does Mexican food make you feel?

Happy Cinco de Mayo friends! The 5th of May commemorates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Mexico but it isn't a national holiday. In fact it's celebrated even more in the USA! Cinco de Mayo is sometimes confused with Mexico's Independence Day but that day is celebrated on September 16.

Chocolatey goodness! When designing a dessert for our Mexico date night kit, naturally chocolate had to take centre stage. After all, the cacao bean from which chocolate is derived, was first cultivated in ancient Mesoamerica, which is present day Mexico.

This super simple dessert also features vanilla and a hint of chilli - again both of which are from present day Mexico.

Our spicy Mexican fudge is made with just six ingredients. You'll love it!

We can hardly believe it… Destination Date Nights is one year old! 🎂What a busy year it has been!

When we launched, we had three Destination Date Night kits on offer – for Paris, Morocco and Thailand. We now have eight Destination Date Night kits – adding Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Barcelona and East Africa to the catalogue. ✈️

In August last year we launched a new streamlined version – our Destination Date Night Lite kits. We now have seven Lite kits for Cuba, Hawaii, Copenhagen, New Orleans, Korea, Singapore and Afghanistan.

In October we launched a boarding pass option. So now you can give your loved ones personalised travel boarding passes to accompany one of our date night kits or to surprise them with a trip in real life! ❤️

During the year we also launched fun products like a ‘Mystery flight date night’, gift certificate and ‘Around the world in four dates’. 🗺️

What a whirlwind of a year! Despite the limitations on travel, the world has felt closer through the connections we’ve built with you, through having the opportunity to relive our travel experiences pre-COVID and through learning about many more places.

We have loved connecting with all of you. A year ago I could never have expected receiving such amazing support from friends and family, and connecting with so many people globally 🌎. We have had people purchase our date night products from all over the world including the USA, the UK, Hungary, New Zealand and Australia.

Finally, a huge thanks to my husband. Many thanks for your extensive proofing, taste testing and marketing services. 👏 We celebrated yesterday with cocktails and tortilla crisps !! 🍸 All in the name of research, of course! 😜
