I do not intend to be controversial or offensive; quite the opposite. I am celebrating Australia Day not because I am racist or approve of killings in an era where exploration and colonisation were acceptable. I am celebrating living in a country where we are free from wars, free to have an opinion, free to be a woman in a scientific field; and I am privileged to live in this beautiful country I have travelled to and greatly admired. I was born in Australia but have descended from Germans, Scandinavians, and the British, all countries which invaded and conquered new lands. But my ancestors do not define who I am and my decisions in modern times. Moreover, my multigenerational Australian ancestors fought and sacrificed their lives for the freedoms we all enjoy today.
I have lived and travelled overseas and will probably go and live in another country again, but I love Australia for many personal reasons, and I won't apologise for that or take the option to "work another day" because it's deemed shameful to celebrate today.
So, I am celebrating this country and our ways this weekend and offering 30% off all my Australian-made products! Share the love 💙❤️🤍🖤❤️💛 not the divide.
