In 1996, I produced and self-published my own poetry and short stories and db publishing was soon established in response to requests from local authors to publish their work too. In our first 10 years we produced for Western Australian authors 100 titles, amounting to 15,000 books. Many of these titles are available here. db books is a division of db publishing proudly owned by myself, Dave Bowen*, ably assisted by my ever-tolerant wife, Rosie**, also a published author. We began trading in pre-loved books in 2003 on eBay. By 2006 we had a vShop on Oztion (now QuickSales.com.au) and soon decided it was time to trade worldwide through our own on-line store. Avid readers both, with a long-time love of writing too, it was almost inevitable we should trade in books and their natural partners, movies and music.

*Dave was born and raised in Southampton UK, educated at Regents Park Infants, Foundry Lane Primary and Taunton’s Grammar, and migrated to Australia in 1969.

**Rosie (nee Davies), a Mandurah girl, educated at Mandurah Primary and Pinjarra High, married Dave in 2008.

I am trying to find HFK Zielke. You paid for a book but did not complete the order form, so I have no idea where to send it.

Well, Folks
we now have a new webhost and will be up and running soon with a redesigned site. How ex-site-ing!
The current site will be up for about another fortnight, and we wish to thank Gavin at Intelliworks for 13 years of great hosting.
Now we are preparing to welcome Anton, from Tropical Webhost in Cairns, Far North Queensland, who has already proved his capabilities as our host.

We've got this manual in stock - but it's missing the 2020 update. 🙃

Poppy-pinchin' Pigeon

I'm awake here Sunday morning in a trench that stinks like hell
and a pigeon swoops in swiftly - thank God, not another shell.
We've had a week's bombardment, nerves are shattered. It's absurd
that suddenly a calm has flown in with this precious bird.

'Coo,' he says, 'Are you all right?' and 'Coo, you're looking flustered.'
'I'm okay now, my feathered friend; in fact, I'm keen as mustard.
You've brought the news we're waiting for, tied to your little limb,
and now we know our enemy's plans, have we got news for him.'

I give my friend some biscuit crumbs. He thanks me, 'Coo, coo, coo,'
and flies off back to base, I guess, to the Pigeon Corps HQ.
Wars are often won, it's said, through the deeds of plucky birds
who fly through deadly battle zones to bring life-saving words.

Fast forward now a century plus, and half a world away
Australia as a nation readys for Remembrance Day
but someone's taking poppies from the Unknown Soldier's Tomb,
so we're up in arms again, my friends, for thieves we have no room.

But wait, here comes my pigeon pal a-picking up a poppy,
and flies straight to a stained-glass nest, but doesn't even stop, he
drops petals for his poppet, and swoops back to the source
to fetch another message like his forebears in the force.

And the memo that our feathered friend is sending to us all
is to soldier on and fight for fair in answer to the call.
Our hard-won pensions, even poppies, or our life maybe, one day,
we'll give for friends and family, it's the true blue Aussie way.
