Build & Paint Night at The Cro’s Nest

Painting is more fun when you're not doing it alone.

Whether you're working through a backlog, finishing an army for an upcoming tournament, building something wildly over-engineered from the bits box, or finally putting paint on that model you've been promising yourself you'll start "next week", bring it along.

Build & Paint Night is a relaxed hobby session where you can work on your projects, chat hobby, share ideas, and learn from other painters and builders in the community. Need a second opinion on a colour scheme? Not sure how to tackle a particular technique? Chances are someone around the table has been there before.

Bring your models, paints, brushes, tools and everything else you need. We'll provide the tables, good company, and plenty of hobby conversation.

Progress is progress. See you at the hobby table!

Brothers in Arms – 40K Doubles Event

Grab a mate and prepare for war.

On Saturday 27th June, we'll be hosting Brothers in Arms, a 2000-point Warhammer 40K Doubles Event at The Cro's Nest.

Each player brings a 1000-point army, joins forces with a teammate, and battles it out across a day of organised games for glory, honour, and bragging rights.

This is a casual, community-focused event designed to be fun and approachable. There are no entry fees, no prize pool, and no pressure — just a great day of gaming with friends. (We may have a little something for the winning team.)

Never played doubles before? Don't worry. The format is straightforward, and we'll be happy to help with any questions.

Looking for a game this weekend?
Join us at The Cro’s Nest this Saturday, May 30, for a relaxed night of 1000pt Warhammer 40K.

We’re running an Open Engagement Night focused on:
• Casual, community-driven games
• Easy matchups on the night
• A welcoming environment for players of all experience levels

Whether you’re just starting out, returning to the hobby, or simply keen to get some reps in, this is a great opportunity to hit the tables.
No opponent? No worries. We’ll make sure everyone gets a game.
Wanting to play at a different points limit? Just let us know in advance, and we'll see if we can tee up a partner for you.

A centrepiece model you’ve been putting off?
A pile of grey that’s starting to feel personal?
Bring it down and make some progress.

This is a relaxed, social hobby night, but you’ll be surrounded by some seriously experienced painters and builders who are always generous with tips, techniques and problem-solving. If you’ve been wanting advice on colour schemes, weathering, highlighting, brush control, fixing paint mishaps, or just how to push your models to that next level, this is the room to be in.

BYO models and all hobby gear required: paints, brushes, tools, glue, the works. We provide the space, you bring the arsenal.

🎨 THE CRO’S NEST PAINTING COMPETITION 🎨

Entries for our first ever painting competition open Friday 8th May!
Whether you're a veteran painter, trying to push yourself to the next level, or simply looking for motivation to finally finish a project, this competition is for you. Painters of all skill levels are encouraged to enter.

🖌 HOW IT WORKS
Entrants will have up to 6 weeks to build and paint their chosen entry before submissions close on Friday 19th June.
To keep things fair, all entries must be presented to us before painting begins so we can confirm models are unpainted at the start of the competition. Models may be assembled and primed.

🏆 CATEGORIES
• Single Miniature
• Large Model / Vehicle / Monster
• Kitbash / Conversion*
• Youth Category (17 years & under)

* The Kitbash / Conversion category is intended for entries featuring significant modification, conversion, or creative customisation work.

🏅 JUDGING & PRIZES
Entries will be scored by our judging panel, with prizes awarded across the categories.
Following judging, all completed entries will be displayed in-store for one week, where members of our community and the general public will be able to vote for their favourite piece for an additional People’s Choice award.

📅 IMPORTANT DATES
• Entries Open: Friday 8th May
• Submission Deadline: Friday 19th June
• Winners Announced: Sunday 28th June

📌 ENTRY INFORMATION
• Participants may enter one entry per category
• New entries will be accepted throughout the painting period, provided models are presented unpainted before work begins
• Completed basing is encouraged
• Display-only entries are welcome
• $15 per entry | $10 per youth entry
