Recently on the flower farm…

Removing the eucalyptus trees. They weren’t happy and our vision has changed/expanded since we planted them where we thought the edge of the flower was!!. I’ve been hit and cold about doing this for months but this week finally made a decision.

Fertilising the dahlia beds from last season and finally dealing with the weeds. Preparing the soil for what comes next.

Fungicide spray (organic) to try and reduce powdery mildew on some of our ranunculus.

Ranunculus pick!!!

Foliage fertiliser to help these babies grow and making sure they have all the nutrients they need to be strong and produce lots of healthy blooms.

A sneak peak at the beginning stages our new fence and farm entrance.

We just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to north Western Australia. One of our favourite places in the country. Broome, Karijini NP, Barn Hill Station and James Price Point. We flew across the country and hired a 4WD camper and lived a simple off grid life for two weeks. We slowed down, explored nature (including flowers of course) and enjoyed having no responsibilities. Make the time, take the time and celebrate life. Don’t just dream about it but get out there and make it happen. PS. It’s been the best 25 years!!!

Ranunculus season is starting!!! We have 10 mini jars available for farm pick up tomorrow. $20 each. Message me to secure yours and arrange pick up.

This is just the start. We will open for pick your own in a few weeks when they are in full swing.

Slowing down and taking time to watch the bees is one of the most beautiful things about being amongst flowers. I found this rogue cosmos in our compost pile today and took a moment to enjoy its beauty as it happily making the most of our extremely mild winter. July and still no frost!!!

Ranunculus field surprises. Weather controls so much of what we do. We plan and organise like we know what’s going to happen and then the weather and nature does its own thing and surprises us! Sometimes they are good surprises and other times not so much. ‘Make plans but do it in pencil’ continues to be my farm life moto.

Had a great couple of days at the National Dalia Conference in Coffs Harbour this week. Learned lots, met so many wonderful people and enjoyed exploring Coffs and surrounds. Even got the spend a bit of time on the beach with my journal!!

While there are always jobs to do out in the field, there is also always planning to do. I’m brain is often thinking about the next season and what I need to be doing now in preparation. Last night was all about planning for Oct/Nov blooms. What beds do I have available, what flowers do we want, how long from planting to bloom for each different variety??? So much to consider. But I’m excited to see how much of this plan works and learn for coming seasons. Always learning.
