There is something really nice about running a long winding gravel road once in a while - yesterday’s run took us up through the hills in behind the Ballina / Byron Bay Area in Northern NSW. No sign this time of the wild pig that chased us last time we ran this road!

Ran into one of these guys on the trail today - a sure way to get the adrenaline going when you know there are snakes about! Luckily Blue Tongue Lizards are not only harmless but beautiful animals. ☀️

15 minutes walk from Launceston's city centre lies Cataract Gorge, an urban wilderness with a trail along the cliff face and South Esk River. Tasmania has no shortage of wildlife, with seals and orcas spotted in the Tamar River recently. Post run, treat yourself to a winery visit just outside of Launceston. Big thanks to Dave, Joe and the team who showed us through their stunning 61ha winery before an amazing long lunch. @ Launceston, Tasmania

Visit Saint Columbia Falls near Pyengana, a 30 minute drive from St Helens. It's a short walk to the falls through rainforests and past tall treeferns. At more than 90m high, Saint Columbia are one of Tasmania's highest waterfalls. A great family trail for the kids to dip their toes in at the base of the falls after the hike.
Afterwards, sample cheeses and have a beer with Priscilla the beer drinking pig (yes, you read correctly! 🤣) @ Pyengana, Tasmania, Australia

Just outside of Bicheno on Tasmania's east coast is the Douglas Apsley National Park. Try out the family friendly Apsley River Waterhole & Gorge trail which is an accessible 6km return.
Back in Bicheno, meet Subi and Helen at The Farm Shed, who showcase tastings and sales from all East Coast region vineyards as well as some fine Tasmanian whisky and gin. Sample the local flavours and take time to enjoy Bicheno's slower pace.

What a great day in the Huon Valley, Tasmania. An amazing morning trail in the Hartz Mountains National Park, followed by warm hospitality, locally made cider and encounters with crazy mountain goats in Franklin. All just over an hours drive from Hobart. Gotta love Tassie!
