🏭 NEW RELEASE - EVELEIGH DAVY PRESS 🏭

I'm pleased to announce the latest addition to the Redfern Works range, the NSW Railway Workshops Davy Press.

This highly detailed model has been carefully based on the historic Davy Press that still survives in the Foundry Building at the former Eveleigh Railway Workshops in Sydney.

Machines such as these played an important role in the construction, repair and maintenance of locomotives, carriages and tramcars throughout New South Wales. The surviving prototype is a fascinating reminder of the incredible engineering capability that once existed within Australia's railway workshops.

Available in both HO Scale and O Scale, the model consists of multiple components and is ideal for:

🔧 Tram depots
🔧 Carriage workshops
🔧 Industrial scenes
🔧 Heritage and preservation layouts

This model is also the first release in a new range of Lineside & Workshop Detail Parts, with additional workshop machinery and railway detail items already planned.

For those following the recent wagon load releases, the new Grain, Coal and Log Loads have also proven very popular and are now available through the Redfern Works website and eBay store.

🚂 NEW EVERYDAY WAGON LOADS FROM REDFERN WORKS 🚂

I've been expanding the range of NSW railway wagon loads over the last week and am pleased to announce the first releases in the new Everyday Wagon Load Collection.

Now available in both HO Scale and O Scale:

🌾 NSW Bagged Grain Wagon Load
⚫ NSW Coal Wagon Load
🌲 NSW Log Wagon Load

These loads are based on the sort of everyday freight traffic that could once be seen across New South Wales, from country branch lines to busy goods yards and industrial sidings.

Each load has been designed to suit specific NSW wagon types, while many can also be adapted to fit other wagons with minor trimming if required.

The response to the Grain Load has already been fantastic, with a large number sold in the first few days, so thank you to everyone who has supported the new range.

All loads are available individually, with multi-pack options also available.

More loads are currently under development and will be added to the range over the coming weeks.

New Wagon Loads Now Available From Redfern Works

I'm pleased to announce the release of a new range of wagon loads for HO and O Scale railway modellers.

The initial range includes three unique loads designed to add interest and variety to open wagons, flat wagons, engineering trains and industrial sidings:

🏭 Industrial Refrigeration Machinery Load
Based on refrigeration equipment manufactured by Hudson Brothers of Auburn.

🚂 NSW Baldwin Steam Tram Boiler Load
Representing a removed steam tram boiler being transported for overhaul, repair or replacement.

⚙️ Industrial Pinion Gear Load
A heavy engineering load featuring a large drive gear and pinion mounted on timber transport beams.

Each load is available individually, or as part of a discounted three-load collection.

New O Scale 1855 Wright & Co. 1st Class Carriage Now Available

I'm pleased to announce the release of my O Scale model of the 1855 Wright & Co. 1st Class Carriage, representing one of the earliest passenger vehicles to operate on the New South Wales railways.

Developed from original research and CAD design work, the model captures the distinctive appearance of these elegant colonial-era carriages and complements the growing Redfern Works range of nineteenth-century rolling stock.

The model is now available in two forms:

A bit of work on the railway side of the business today! With the trams taking up most of my workload lately, it was nice to tackle one of my customers’ more interesting orders, a pair of O scale 1855 First Class carriages.

While developing these two fully built models, I decided it would make sense to turn the carriage into a kit as well. Anyone interested?

The model pictured is one of the two fully built carriages. It’s really starting to come together, with the glazing, decals, underframe and buffers fitted.

You’ll notice something important is still missing: the second roof.

These early English-built carriages from Joseph Wright & Sons were among the carriages supplied for the beginnings of the NSW railway system. The model will have its distinctive second roof fitted, complete with the elaborate scroll-style supports that I still need to print.

The interior has also been wallpapered, which I showed in an earlier post. I’ll include those photos again because it really adds something special to an O scale model.

So, the big question:

Would anyone be interested in an O scale kit of this carriage?

If there’s enough interest, I could start working through more of my 19th-century rolling stock in O scale, including:

2nd and 3rd Class carriages • Brake vans • Horse boxes • and more

🚋 New O Scale Four-Wheel Carriage Kit Coming Soon! 🚋

Today I've been working on a new O Scale four-wheel passenger carriage project.

One of the details I've been particularly excited about is recreating the interior of the prototype carriage as accurately as possible. I sourced a period wallpaper pattern, scaled it to suit the model, printed it as a decal and then used my Silhouette cutter to cut the pieces precisely to fit the carriage sides. The wallpaper will be included as part of the kit, allowing builders to recreate the character of the original carriage interior.

The interior seats and bulkheads have also been prepared and painted, with glazing, underframe components and additional detailing now underway.

The aim is to offer the carriage both as a completed model and as an unassembled O Scale kit.

🚃 Customer Build – 1855 Carriage Kits
I recently received these photos from Ricky Brown, who has just completed a set of the 1855 carriages, and I thought they were well worth sharing.
The finish on these has come out particularly nicely, especially the tone of the timber panelling. Ricky achieved this using a simple layered approach with Tamiya acrylics:
– Yellow/tan primer
– A custom mixed orangey/tan main colour applied by airbrush
– A light “smoke clear” coat applied with a brush to bring out depth and variation
The result gives a really convincing variation and warmth to the timber finish.
