Down at Happy Vallley on Easter Saturday I spoke with a New Zealand family. The 4 year old enjoyed putting together the "Jesus walks on Water' puzzle as I told her the story and the grandmother chose the flower puzzle to buy. Simitaneously a newly pregnant mum and her husband picked out the Australia Puzzle. When the grandmother came to pay she had limited cash because they were flying back to NZ the next day. They were unable to pay direct debit and they left the table somewhat disappointed. The second couple paid for their puzzle and then the young man told his wife to pay for the flowerr puzzle as well. He said, 'Pay it Forward', and sent his wife off to give the puzzle to the grandmmother. What a lovely, lovely gesture!

The first photo shows a young's child present to me! She had enjoyed doing one of my puzzles and gave me a puzzle in return.

I have being going down to the park after church for the last month to cut puzzles and chat the gospel to whoever is inclined to talk about Jesus. These are three young bodies who did all three puzzle I had available for them.

One yungun' and I talked about Jesus and how He is God's son. When talking about Joseph we decided that he 'adopted Jesus'.

In Chile in Mid-March I slipped on ice and damaged the tendon of my right hand thumb. Only days after my return from overseas, I fell while weeding when a rotted wooden paling in the retaining wall in our garden gave way. I broke the little finger on my left hand. Needless to say I was unnable to to do any puzzling for about four months. I had about seven orders to fill and was only just able to finish them before the business of Christmas overtook me. Then just days before Christmas day I tripped on a raised plank on the Caloundra boardwalk, faceplanted and fractured the radius in my right arm. For the next six weeks I was off puzzle making yet again. It was wonderful last Sunday to find myself back at a park table in Happy Valley, Caloundra cutting a puzzle and chatting to people drawn to the unusual sight of a woman hand making wooden jigsaw puzzles!

I am so happy to introduce this puzzle depicting the crucifixion. My UK friend, Paul Judson kindly took my quite juevenille design and remodelled to this. It can be purchased for $35.

I have the flu but with15 puzzles on the painting table I am finding it easy to fill my 'awake and reasonably energetic time'. You don't need to send commiserations, I think that I'll soon be healthy again, and I am enjoying having large slabs of time to paint. I have a few new Biblical puzzles among this lot and one super cute snake (no, not a Biblical snake).

When I was in Sydney last year, I strolled through the markets in the Rocks and my eye was caught by Sean Carver's designs ( Instagram) and when I saw his hippie kombi I couldn't help but start planning the possible cuts to create a puzzle. I went away, returned, went away and returned once more with my courage plucked up. I explained my puzzle making outfit and how the profits are spent and asked his permission to use his designs. He immediately said yes. I was jubilant. Just recently a friend asked about the possibility of a kombi puzzle and so Sean's t-shirt design hit wood!

When making puzzles I need to be alert at all stages of the process. When the puzzles pieces are laid out on the table sorted by colour for painting I have often accidentally flicked over a piece and painted the wrong side. This was the same error but at a different stage in the process.

I had cut out the duck puzzle and was left with the oval frame that needed to be glued down to its MDF base. I glued it down upside down. Preparing the wood, cutting and sanding had already probably taken close on 2 hours so I did not want to throw the puzzle away and start again, so I decided to try and soak the base off.

The puzzle was a little larger than the the base of the baking dish so I put a plastic box on the bottom of the dish, balanced the puzzle on top, weighed it down with a can of tomatoes and filled the dish with water. (This is what you can see in the photo.) I left it for 24 hours but there was no change. One experienced old fellow at the Wooodworking Club suggested I dispense with the baking dish, fill the puzzle frame with water and leave it for 24 hours. After 24 hours the frame was still very firmly attached but I could see that the water had seeped through the MDF and made the bottom a little teeny bit damp. I replaced the water and left it another 12 hours. It looked as if I was no further advanced but as I drained off the water the frame slid off the base. Hooray, one duck puzzle saved!

The last name puzzle for Christmas included a unicorn. I suspect there will be quite a few more of these creatures jumping into future puzzles.

The last weeks have been devoted to making name puzzles.
No row of the standard pictures at the bottom of my puzzles!
If you would like to order a name puzzle for Christmas you will need to order immediately to ensure it is finished in time. Like the puzzles shown, you can ask for themed pictures that I will design to complement the shape of the letters of your child's name.
Please be aware that due to the considerable hike in the cost of wood and paint, I have had to adjust all my puzzle prices.

Hi folks,

Thank you so much for supporting Peace Child Puzzles. This Christmas season I thought I would share with you this special story.

My last FB post was of one of my Biblical puzzles depicting the Three Wise Men. The Christmas story tells of wise men who travelled from the East to pay homage and bring gifts to the new King, the son of God, who was born in Bethlehem.

Earlier this year my husband and I travelled west to take gifts of a different kind to our friends who run a small Learning Centre in Mbirisi, Uganda. Using the money I earnt from the sale of my puzzles we purchased gifts of books, teacher resources and supplies for this centre and practical items for Kizito and Sylvia that released time for teaching.

I love making the puzzles knowing that proceeds from the sale of them enable Kizito and Sylvia, the Centre leaders, to provide quality Reading, Maths and English classes to ‘at risk’ rural children.

Ordering a puzzle means you give twice. Once to your recipient and then also to some of the children of Mbirizi. You bring hope to a community so far away.
