ANZAC DAY 2021 - LEST WE FORGET

Amara Gemstones is owned and operated by a Defence family.

We are proud to also have a member of our extended family currently serving. Another was medically discharged a few years ago after spending almost his entire adult life serving the Navy Clearance Divers. My Grandfather served in WWII and so did my Grandmother's brothers.

I see first hand every day how hard our serving members work in service of our country. I see the sacrifices they make, including constant relocations, long absences from home and missing their families. I know how many sacrifices I've made to love and support one.

We thank all past and present Defence members for their service.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Steve has a permanent full-time job outside Amara Gemstones. But in reality he spends all day dreaming about cutting gem stones, just for you.

We have some rough gemstones in stock or you can provide your own. He'd love to be part of creating a bespoke gemstone for your collection or unique piece of jewellery 💎

If you're interested, it's best to head over to Steve's profile and have a chat with him about the process. He's also selling some of his beautiful precision cut stones over there!

Ultimately one day, Steve would like to quit his 'day job' and cut gems full-time. You can help him reach that dream 💙 So don't hesitate to contact him with your gem project today!

APRIL BIRTHSTONE - DIAMOND

As we head into the cooler months, it's the perfect time to talk about the icy magnificence of colourless diamonds. Those who are lucky enough to be born in April can demand the Earth's hardest and most popular gemstone for every birthday!

Completely colourless and flawless diamonds are comprised solely of carbon, which is unique in the gem world. Most gemstones are made up of at least two mineral elements. In some cases it is sneaky atoms of other elements such as nitrogen or boron, that help give diamonds their colour; in this case yellow and blue respectively.

The way in which the carbon atoms bond together in diamonds, as they are formed underground under pressure and heat, give diamond it's unique hardness.

There is SO much to know and learn about diamonds, they are simply fascinating! In fact Julia spent a whole year just studying diamonds 😁

We do not currently stock diamonds as we focus on coloured gemstones.
