Variegation - What is it & how does it occur?🪴

Variegation is the result of one or more leaves and/or flowers in which patches of two or more different colours occur.
It occurs for many reasons; usually an inherited characteristic, but it also can occur due to genetic mutations within the plant causing an over-production of chlorophyll, which is why you may see some plants more variegated than others.

You can see it clearly here in this Variegated Ribbon Grass & the Ruby Ficus, a very common indoor plant.
