Lyn Gardiner, a remarkable knitter and crocheter, has created 156 square pieces, which are enough to make 13 knee rugs. We truly appreciate your incredible efforts and thank you so much for your work. Our Rotary project Cover-Up is going from strength to strength, thank you to the incredible generosity of our community craftspeople.

Our next project is to create small succulent terrariums for our End Polio fundraiser. We would appreciate any donations of pretty cups (even chipped or discoloured) or other small containers so we can plant baby succulents in them.

To provide some context for this project, I’d like to mention that people have generously donated squares from all over. Squares have arrived from Adelaide, Melbourne, Cootamundra and Young. We’ll collect a batch of blankets for Harden Grange tomorrow but still have plenty of squares to stitch together.

We couldn’t have hoped for a more successful and community-building project and we truly appreciate everyone’s involvement, whether it’s knitting or crocheting squares or sewing rugs. We hope the nursing home residents of Harden find comfort in these rugs and feel the love and thoughtfulness of many people.

Rotary Operation Cover-Up:
We have the most incredible community ever. This is the second lot of knee rugs and some full bed-sized rugs. So many more squares and full rugs have been donated and it’s impossible to thank everyone involved. We do want to make special mention of Lynnie Wall, however, who made the 5 large bed rugs and 10 knee rugs in 7 weeks - how extraordinary is that. Thank you everyone, this lot will be going to residents at The Grange.

Today, for Christmas in July Eve, we celebrated Jolabokaflod with the Year 7 class at Murrumburrah High School. This is an Icelandic tradition celebrated on Christmas Eve, where presents of books are exchanged and the night is spent reading and drinking hot chocolate. Thank you to MHS Principal, Ruth Riach for the great idea and for asking Rotary to be part of it.

We wrapped books in different genre for the students and after they had each chosen their book, they lay comfortably to read. Some even managed a little nap 😴

Rotary Operation Cover-up
This morning Karen Tanswell and I had the privilege of taking the first lot of knitted and crocheted rugs to the Harden Murrumburrah Hospital Nursing Home residents. The rugs are absolutely beautiful and we thank everyone who has donated completed rugs or squares for these. We also delivered a range of knitted beanies that were donated. It was worth seeing the look of delight on the faces of the residents.
