Like I've been saying, doulas are great at connecting people. At supporting families to find the care they need throughout their pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey.

What you will see when our new website goes lives is a directory 🥳 carefully curated with some of our favourite supportive people!

Behind the online home the members on our directory will be apart of a wonderful and supportive professional network. Where we can find out the juicy details of each other's offerings, discover referral pathways and connect more deeply so that we can create a nurturing and supportive care community for the women and families in Townsville who are journey through their pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

This offering is in its infancy ❤️ and I am full of gratitude for the members who have put their faith in me to deliver this offering! Thank you all for your support! I hope that over the course of 2023, this professional network can grow so that our community can reap the rewards of such a connected group of professionals.

If you're a professional in this arena and you would like to know more about this offering... please shoot me an email!

Women often share with me that either themselves or their partners are worried about inviting a doula into their space. That maybe the role they want their partner to fill will be overshadowed by a doula.

In my experience that isnt the case, prenatally i love working with families and guiding dads to learn techniques to support their labouring partners in birth. We talk in depth about what role they want to play, I adore watching dads step up in birth and really care deeply for their significant other! There are moments where a shared glance or a nod from across the room is felt deeply, a familiar face in the birth room, a trusted friend and professional to turn to.

A doula is not a replacement for a father or birth partner, but rather, complimentary. Birth partners are equally as emotionally invested in in the process of birth as you are yourself. Labour can be turbulent and emotional for your birth partner – it is never easy seeing someone you love in pain. A doula applies her wealth of knowledge and experience in the natural process of birth to provide neutral and practical support to everyone.

“In suggesting the support of a doula, our intent is not to diminish the father’s role but to enhance it, to free him up to stand by the mother. With the doula present, the father is never left as the sole, isolated, responsible person caring for the labouring mother. This vital ingredient – the support of an experienced woman – has been lost in modern obstetrical care.” (Klaus et al., 2012)

Holy wow! Our community is so so blessed! Hazel Keedle has committed to doing a book.launch event in Townsville on the 11th of September.

"Have you had a caesarean and are unsure of what your options are for your next birth? Do you want to have a vaginal birth but have been told “once a caesarean, always a caesarean”? Are you a birth worker and want to support women in their next birth after caesarean choices?

In this book Hazel Keedle explores the research around repeat caesarean and vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC). Hazel introduces and explains the importance of the four factors to having a better birth. Using research from her PhD, Hazel gives practical advice for women and their support people on planning for a better birth. Planning a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) can be really hard work - negotiating with care providers, explaining your choices to random strangers (why they insist on asking such personal questions is beyond me!), inner turmoil over whether this really is the right decision for you, and more research than the average degree.

At the end of this 4 hour workshop you will be able to confidently articulate what this journey means to you, what you need to feel safe and secure, and know what strategies you need to put in place to ensure that your needs are met. You will also feel way more confident about all the decisions that you need to make, navigating our maternity care system, and putting together your birth plan.

We will talk about hospital policies, evidence based care, statistics, optimising physiology, and bringing YOU into the centre of this journey. You will also have plenty of opportunity to ask questions and share your hopes and fears.

I cannot wait to see you step into and re-ignite your birthy power! Cost for the session is: $120 per person or $180 per couple. Partners are encouraged to come along, but this is not compulsory.

This VBAC workshop is being facilitated by Lizzie Carroll, VBAC mentor. Lizzie is a doula, childbirth educator, birth advocate, and runs the VBAC Australia Support Group. She is a mum of 3 and has experienced 2 caesareans and a VBA2C. She has also put together her own 10 steps to a powerful VBAC journey based on all that she has learned after being immersed in the VBAC and birthy world for 10 years.

🧡Lizzie's next VBAC workshop is this month, you can book your ticket on our website! Link in BIO 🙌

Tonights community share for WBW 2022 is from .mumma.au, thank you so much for sharing your story!

I have been breastfeeding for 3.5 years. I am currently tandem feeding my 3.5yo and my 10 month old. Breastfeeding hasn’t exactly been ‘easy’ for me. It’s hard work, but I love it. We have battled through oral restrictions, poor latch, bleeding and blistered ni***es, pregnancy hormones, aversions, mastitis - you name it! I had very little support and education about breastfeeding when I had Oliver, as I had never seen someone breastfeed before. However, I am thankful that I was able to navigate through the issues. After having Ella, I felt I needed extra support from an IBCLC, so I reached out to Mumma G Midwifery and she was amazingly supportive. If you are struggling with breastfeeding, I would highly recommend booking in with an IBCLC! I’m also thankful for all of the support that I have from my ‘village’ at Let’s Talk Birth. Karlee is a beautiful soul.

Thankfully, we are still going strong with the tandem feeding and I plan to feed both babies until they decide to wean.

Our first WBW community share is from Kayla. Thank you so much for speaking up for this world breastfeeding week, your story fits beautifully with the theme, educate and support.

14 months breastfeeding. Not without hiccups, Elliana was born in May 2021 and after struggling to latch from the get go she ended up in special care due to jaundice. Breast feeding was hard even with a shield to help the pain, I nearly gave up numerous times before enlisting the help of Mumma G. A corrected lip tie and some position changes and tweaks from Georgina and we haven’t looked back. I love that I am Elliana’s comfort and I am so grateful to have the very special bond we have thanks in part to our breastfeeding journey. 14 months and counting 💪

I’m so thankful that people like Georgina exist and I hope this Breastfeeding week more people can become aware of the help that’s out there for them! 💕
