New class dates at Carafe Wine Australia have just dropped 🧶👏🏼

We have our Absolute Beginner Class on Sun 20 Sep Sat. This one is for complete newbies - I teach you the crochet basics and you start your own crochet coaster.

And brand new to Nana Sport, we have our step up class, where I’ll teach you to make a very cute cuff bracelet. This one is perfect for everyone who has done my beginner class, or if you already know the crochet basics. More details to come on that one.

Introducing Stitch Social 🧶

A free community crafternoon for anyone who likes making things.

Sunday 30 August, 4–5.30pm at Carafe Wine, Southport.

Bring whatever you’re working on - crochet, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch, hand sewing or anything else you can fit in a bag (and isn’t too messy).

Grab a wine, pull up a chair and spend an hour crafting and hanging out with your kinda people.

It’s free, and there’s no need to book - just show up.

Ever tried monotasking?

The complete opposite of chasing your tail, trying it do 10 things at once, monotasking has some very cool benefits:

✔️The singular focus enables you to increase productivity

✔️Gives your brain a break from jumping from one thing to another

✔️Keeps you right in the present, fully engaged in what you’re doing

✔️ Calms your farm - less overwhelm and less stress

If you ask me, grandma hobbies like crochet are the ultimate monotasks. How good!

This often comes up in classes… mostly as a joke, but still interesting.

“I thought crochet was meant to be relaxing.”

And it is. I promise. Pinky promise. 🤞

It’s just that learning the basics takes a bit of practice and time.

It’s like learning to drive. At the beginning you’ve got a million things going on all at once. Your hands are trying to work together, you’re thinking about where the yarn goes, where the hook goes, and then there’s this thing called tension.

There’s a bit going on.

And that’s why it takes practice. A few goes, at least.

These coasters were all made in under two hours by people who’d never picked up a crochet hook before. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me.

The good news is it doesn’t take long before it all starts to come together.

My favourite part of every class is watching that moment when it clicks. You can actually see it happen. Suddenly their hands start finding a rhythm, they’re not having to think quite so hard about every movement.

It might not feel that way to them yet, but I can see it every single class. And it’s one of my favourite parts of teaching.
