Something I struggle with a lot is the practice of, HAVING A SHOP. When considering consumerism, capitalism and the future of our planet, I agonise over owning a place that sells things that people probably don’t *really* need. My ongoing, internal counter [in both senses of the word] argument is that nice, local shops are a lovely place to hang out, visit, feel safe, be proud of, connect to, learn from, etc etc.
Today I read a post by shop-friend which helped lessen my shop-keeper-angst/ strengthened my argument. What a wonderful and generous thing to do. Good feedback is one thing, STITCHED good feedback is on another level. Thank you so much for your care Lindsay, I really do appreciate you so much ♥️🙏🏼
I guess everyone in this beautiful street scene does it for you (and for you, reading this, hello). Our businesses are for you 🫶🏼
This bit, copied from the post, was especially touching, thank you again;
“It's so easy to want to buy things when you get to meet and chat with the people who are directly benefiting from your purchases, and I can tell you from experience that when tells you how much she appreciates you EVERY SINGLE TIME you leave her shop, there is no space for guilt because your heart is filled with pure joy.
When I think about it, pretty much everyone l've met since I've been in Western Australia has been because of shops, and I don't think I'd be half as happy here if it wasn't for those connections even if I do feel like I'm forcing my way into people's lives while they're just trying to do their jobs (the strategy has worked pretty well for me so far). Anyway, the actual point of this post is to say that because I love Freo and love shops, l've stitched a bunch of my favourites all together! It's still a work in progress but I thought I should share an update to let you know that (as per my list of what's IN in 2023) I am actually doing some things that I enjoy!”
