Coco’s Closet Art Classes began with just six students soon blossomed into something far greater, growing to a vibrant community of 39 creatives over the years. It became a happy place — a safe, inspiring space where both children and adults could explore, create, and simply be. Through after-school classes and holiday workshops, Coco’s Closet nurtured not just artistic skills, but confidence, identity, and belonging.
At the heart of it all was a simple but powerful mantra: “I am an artist.” Words that were spoken, believed, and slowly embodied by every person who entered the space. For me, those words held even deeper meaning — a truth that took time to fully claim, but once embraced, became the foundation of everything Coco’s Closet stood for, being able to say I am an artist no matter what!
More than just a studio, it was a community. A place of laughter, paint-covered hands, brave beginnings, and proud moments. A place where stories were shared, friendships were formed, and creativity connected people in the most genuine way.
Driving by, as the building comes down, it marks not just an ending, but a moment to pause, remember, and honour what was created within those walls. Because Coco’s Closet was never just the space itself — it lives on in the people, the memories, and the quiet confidence it helped grow.
A legacy built on creativity, courage, and the belief that everyone can say, “I am an artist.”
