Hooper's Store - Emerald Hooper's Store Emerald Hooper's Store in Emerald was built in 1962, by John & Pat Hooper. We have been trading consistently since then.

Hooper's Store was the first "self service" store outside the Brisbane metro area. Until then, stores in country towns were the old style "general store" where you asked for stuff that was behind a counter - like the stores cowboy movies. Over the years the store has evolved in face of changes and competition. In the early years the store was expanded 3 times to handle the growth of Emerald's popu

lation. With the arrival of corporate supermarkets like Woolworth and Coles whose ability to buy at far cheaper prices than independent stores, Hoopers evolved into a convenience and general store. Because the sheer size of the building, this meant that as well as offering convenience items, there was also room for a very wide range of items. For example, Hoopers now has a very large toy department with all major brands including Lego, Barbi, etc. When you combine this with the long hours of a convenience store - it means you can zip in for a toy without fuss. Another example of the evolution of Hoopers is the internet cafe in the front of the store. This began with only a couple of terminals - which are coin operated for easy and safe use - but now there are 10 terminals on the fastest ADSL2+ line. As of July 2011, we have installed a state of the art wireless internet hotspot with a big-assed antenna for maximum range. This means that you can access the internet using your phone, ipod, nintendo or even a laptop - just by logging in. You can buy access credits for the hotspot securely online using your credit card of from the team at the front registers in store.
