Turmeric, Curcuma longa, is a tropical/subtropical plant in the ginger family native to India and Southern Asia. Grows easily in a frost free location in a shady garden or as an indoor plant and loves moisture while growing. Stunning big broad leaves have a lush tropical look with gorgeous spikes of colourful bracts and flowers in summer. Harvest rhizome when plant dies down to use in middle east dishes for spicy flavour and colour.

Cyrtanthus sanguineus is a South African, evergreen bulb that flowers through summer months. Multiplies well in our area, does not like frost. Suitable for pots, hanging baskets or well drained soil in the garden. Likes sun for at least half the day. Limited numbers available. $10 ea

Roses order - bare root
I will be placing an order for bare root roses to Treloar roses on Friday January 30. The cost of postage is $25 whether it is 1 rose or 20 so wondered if anyone would like to put an order in with mine? Majority of bare root roses is under $30 ea. Order will be paid for at time of ordering with delivery being from June onwards. Contact me with your order or any questions.

I ALWAYS pick roses with the highest health rating.

Picture is of my gorgeous Perfume Passion which has been growing (with a lot of neglect) in my garden for approx 6 years. It's a repeat flowerer which means it's rarely without a flower and the perfume is divine even when it's flower is well passed fresh, as mine is today.

Pineapple lily - Eucomis is a clump forming bulbous plant native to South Africa. These plants are hardy in sunny to part shade positions in the garden or large pot. The bulbs die down for winter then sprout fleshy, long, strappy leaves in Spring. Flower stems emerge in early Summer with flowers opening from bottom to top of stem over many months.

Amorphophallus bulbifer are a subtropical relative of the giant amorphophalus titanium. Bulifer, from India, China and Burma grows to 1m tall and has a giant, divided, single leaf on a mottled stem. When tuber is mature, approx 3 years old, it produces a stunning large, soft pink spathe which surrounds the tiny flowers on a white spadix. It has an unpleasant smell on first day of opening to attract pollinators and the flower stays for up to 2 weeks with no smell. Grow in well drained potting mix, in light shade or early morning sun. Keep moist while growing and dry in winter when dormant. Small pots $10, medium pots $15 and large pots $22.

Caladiums are a colourful, tropical, foliage plant that comes in many different colours and shapes, which makes them very collectable. Prefers a semi shade to shady position in the garden and needs well drained, moist, rich soil. Protect from hot summer sun. Excellent as a container plant. Returns back to bulb during winter and needs to be kept dry during its rest time. These plants are Available in small pots $10 and larger pots $15. These plants have only just started to come through and leaves will become much larger through the hot summer time.
