🎣 How to Catch Australian Salmon🌊🐟
Australian salmon are a blast to catch! Known for their strength and aerial leaps, these hard-fighting fish often school up along Ninety Mile Beach and can surprise you inside estuaries. Their acrobatics and tenacity make every catch exciting, and they’ll even try to throw the hook with wild jumps! 🐠💥
Quick Tip on Table Fare:
While they aren’t always considered the tastiest, bleeding and chilling them immediately makes a huge difference. Hot smoking the fillets works wonders thanks to their oily flesh. Got a few extras? They make unbeatable bait for gummy sharks! 🦈
Where & When to Find Them:
Australian salmon are a year-round target. During the winter surf run in Bass Strait, you can land bigger fish—up to 2kg or more! In the surf, they gather in deeper waters, chasing baitfish stirred up by the waves. Look for a good gutter on a rising tide for some serious action. 🌊🎣
Surf Fishing Setup:
🎣 Lure Fishing:
Use a 9-10 ft spin rod with a 3000 or 4000 reel, paired with 15lb braid. Metal slice lures are perfect for staying active and covering ground!
🎣 Bait Fishing:
For a second setup, a 12-14 ft surf rod with a double dropper rig and 40lb mono works best. Use blue bait, pilchard, squid strips, or p**i. Keep your bait in place using pyramid sinkers, and use a PVC or metal rod holder to keep your setup out of the sand! 🌟
Estuary Action:
Catch salmon in estuaries for pure adrenaline! Use your bream or whiting gear with 2.5 to 3.5-inch soft plastics on small jig heads. Bait fishing? Find a channel with current and use a small running sinker rig. Add some berley to draw them in. A 6.5-7.5 ft rod, 2500-sized reel, 6lb braid, and 10lb leader is the perfect combo for estuary action. ⚡
Offshore Fishing:
If you’re after offshore action, salmon often school around headlands. Cast metal slugs into the white water and retrieve fast, or troll lures to cover more ground and find the schools. 🌊🎣

🎣 How to Catch Australian Bass🌊🐟
The Australian bass is a true icon of our freshwater rivers and lakes, and they’re becoming more and more popular with anglers. If you’re looking to hook one, Blue Rock Lake and Lake Glenmaggie are some of the top spots to visit! These native fighters pack a serious punch for their size.
________________________________________
How to Identify Them: Bass look a bit like estuary perch but have a shallower body, darker markings, and white-tipped a**l and pelvic fins. Their preferred diet includes fish, shrimp, insects, and they’re big fans of cicada nymphs and moths!
________________________________________
When & Where to Fish: Bass fishing is prime from November to April, especially on warm, still evenings when insects are out. Look for structure like rocky points, w**d beds, and standing timber in lakes, as well as deeper water where they tend to school up. Low-light conditions and evenings are prime time for some bass action!
________________________________________
Fishing Tips: 🎣 Lure Fishing: Go for medium-fast action rods (6.6-7 ft) with a 2500-sized reel, spooled with 8-12 lb braid and a 12 lb leader. Bass love a wide range of lures, from diving crankbaits and 3-inch soft plastics to surface lures (cicada imitations are a winner). You can also try small spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, and spoons, especially when fishing deeper waters in lakes.
🎣 Bait Fishing: Shrimp, worms, and small yabbies on a running sinker rig are your best bet. You can fish from shore or boat for a shot at these tough fighters!

Family-Friendly & Adventure Options: Thanks to substantial stockings, Aussie bass fisheries are now more accessible to everyone. If you’re after a family-friendly fishing trip, drop in a line at your local spot. For the adventurers out there, kayaking or rafting into remote river sections will reward you with some unforgettable fishing experiences!

🎣 How to Catch Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) Like a Pro! 🐟
Tuna fishing is an adrenaline-pumping adventure! Southern bluefin tuna (SBT) are powerful oceanic predators that can be caught in different ways, with trolling lures being the go-to method. But these days, lure casting is gaining popularity too!
🌊 Where to Find Them:
Bluefin tuna migrate along the coastline, sticking around areas rich in forage fish. They can be anywhere from just 20-30 meters deep near headlands to way out beyond the continental shelf. Seasonal factors, wind, and ocean currents play a huge role in where they’re located.
🛥️ How to Search for Tuna:
• Fishing reports are your best friend to pinpoint starting locations.
• Once on the water, look for diving sea birds, sonar marks, or the sight of milling or jumping fish.
• Some fishers swear by sea surface temperature charts to narrow down spots, while others prefer to return to areas where they’ve had luck before.
• If there are no obvious signs, trolling a mix of skirts and deep-diving lures is an effective way to cover ground. Be ready for that sudden, heart-stopping strike out of nowhere!
🎣 Techniques to Catch Them:
Once you’re on the fish, mix up your approach. You can cast lures, jig, or try cubing (similar to a berley trail). These techniques can turn a day of spotting into an epic fight with one of these beasts!
💪 Tackle & Gear:
Tuna are fierce fighters! Smaller bluefin can be managed with spin tackle you’d use for gummy sharks, but if you’re targeting those massive barrel tuna, you’ll need heavy-duty gear that’s up to the challenge.
Get ready for the ultimate battle at sea and the thrill of hooking one of the most iconic sportfish out there! Tight lines, and good luck! 🎣🔥 https://vtackle.com.au/

🎣 How to Catch Trout in Lakes: Tips & Tricks for Every Angler! 🐟
Whether you’re a keen lure caster, a trolling enthusiast, or simply want to relax with a baited line, lake fishing for trout offers something for everyone. Here’s how to get started:
🚤 Trolling:
Trolling allows you to cover lots of water and figure out where the fish are holding. You can troll lures right on the surface (flatlining) or use methods to get deeper, like downriggers, lead core lines, or trolling sinkers. Go slow and vary your lure depths. Some top lure choices are the Hester range or bibbed minnows that mimic small baitfish. You can also troll worms and mudeyes behind attractors like cowbells.
👉 Gear tip: A 6-7ft medium-action rod, 2500-sized reel, 3kg braided line, and 4kg mono/fluoro leader about 6ft long will do.
🌲 Shore Fishing:
If you prefer fishing from the shore, you’ve got options! Active anglers can walk or wade along lake edges with a spin or fly rod, casting and moving to cover ground. Use the same lures you’d troll with, especially those that cast far. Fly fishers, try wet flies and target low-light periods for better chances.
👉 Gear tip: A 7-7.5ft medium-action rod with 3kg braid and a 4kg leader will serve you well for shore-based casting. Fly anglers, make sure to use a forward-weighted line for long casts.
🐛 Bait Fishing:
Keep it relaxed and family-friendly? Bait fishing is a fantastic way to enjoy the great outdoors! Use natural or artificial baits like mudeyes, earthworms, or glassies. Matching hook size to your bait is key—trout are smart and won’t touch a poorly presented meal. Use light sinkers or a float rig to keep your bait from getting lost in the w**ds. Early mornings and evenings are prime times when trout cruise the edges, so fish close to shore.
👉 Gear tip: The same setup used for shore casting works well for bait fishing, just add a rod holder to secure your line.
🐟 Remember: Trout are smart and spook easily, so pay attention to details like line thickness and bait presentation. Happy fishing, and may your next catch be a big one! 🎣🔥 https://vtackle.com.au/

🚤 How to Catch a Swordfish: The Gladiators of the Sea! 🗡️🐟
A decade ago, catching a broadbill swordfish off East Gippsland was almost unheard of, but now it’s a must do for game fishing enthusiasts! These powerful deep-sea giants are found near the continental shelf and Bass Canyons off Lakes Entrance, and every season, monster swordfish weighing several hundred kilograms are caught. 🏆
🎣 The Hotspot:
The Bass Canyons and the surrounding Continental Shelf off East Gippsland established eastern Victoria as Australia’s swordfish capital. Over the past five years, daytime swordfishing has exploded in popularity, drawing anglers from far and wide when the offshore conditions are just right.
🔍 Finding Swordfish:
Targeting swords usually means searching along the slopes and walls of the Bass Canyons. High-powered sounders are essential for spotting deep bait schools or even the swordfish themselves. Using heavy-duty game fishing tackle, fishers drop big baits—typically whole squid—rigged with lights and hefty weights to depths of several hundred meters where it’s pitch-black. It’s crucial for skippers to manoeuvre the boat to keep lines vertical!
🎣 The Challenge:
Bites can be barely perceptible at those depths, and anglers often make multiple drifts in a single day. Dropping and retrieving baits from the deep takes time, and once a swordfish bites, prepare for a battle! These fish are famous, fights can last over six hours, many are lost mid-fight.
🚤 Safety & Conditions:
Swordfishing requires a serious offshore trip. Good weather, low drift speed, and a dependable boat are must-haves, and it's always wise to travel with several boats keeping an eye out for each other. The waters around the Bass Canyons are teeming with other deep-sea species too, like blue eye trevalla, gemfish, and pink ling. By-catch can include massive oceanic thresher sharks and, on rare occasions, even barrel bluefin tuna!
