🌈 Bright, rainbow-coloured black opals are exceptionally rare and valuable and can reach tens of thousands of dollars per carat at its best!

💎 If you’re after the black opal look without breaking the bank, opal doublets are a fantastic alternative 👌

✨ They offer stunning colour at a more accessible price, while requiring a little extra care when being worn.

This piece is over 30 years old, and gems in this size and colour don’t come around all that often anymore.

This 76ct Coober Pedy dark opal is truly a wonder of nature with vivid colour that dazzles from every angle, videos just don’t do justice for how amazing this stone is in hand.

💎 Australian black opal from Lightning Ridge, where less than 1% of all opal mined is of this variety. Throw in those elusive reds, and you have yourself a rare gem!

👑 Opal is known as the Queen of Gems for a reason 👸

🌈 Few gemstones can display an entire rainbow within a single stone, and that’s why we love it so much 🥰💎

💍 This custom ring ft a Lightning Ridge opal turned out splendidly👌

While it is common for many to use wax and a dip stick to put your opal on - our family has been using wood glue for decades.. which was my grandfathers original hack 👴!!

While we do still use wax occasionally when we have a stone that needs immediate finishing, using wood glue when cutting parcels saves a hell of a lot time on dopping. While waiting for an hour for them to dry, we simply go onto another task in the mean time.

The recurring questions we get are: How do we get them off the sticks? And do they come off when cutting?

We simply soak them in warm water to remove from the sticks and we rarely have them fall off while cutting. If the stone is taking longer than usual to shape with water going over the wheel, then the glue can soften too much so let the glue dry again if that’s the case.

Trusty wood glue making light work of getting this big bunch of opals onto dop sticks 🙌

Now we’re ready to shape and polish ✨

Stay tuned for some epic stones coming up!!

Let’s GOOO!!! 🥳🥳🥳
