Did you know that lead could be contaminating your drinking water, especially in urban areas? This silent contaminant poses serious health risks, yet many people remain unaware of its presence.

Why is Lead a Concern?

Health Risks: Lead exposure can lead to severe health issues, particularly in children, affecting their development and cognitive abilities. Even low levels of lead can be harmful.

Sources of Contamination: Lead can enter your water supply through old lead pipes, solder, and fixtures. Even homes built as recently as the 1990’s could be at risk.

Hidden in Plain Sight: Because lead has no taste, color, or smell, it can go undetected without proper testing.

It’s National Water Week!

At My Water Score, we're dedicated to helping you understand the quality of the water you rely on every day. This National Water Week, let’s take a moment to reflect on the importance of water quality in our lives.

Steps to Understanding Your Water Quality:

1. How does your water taste? If it has a strange flavor, it might be time to investigate.
2. How does your water look? Clear water is essential; cloudy or discolored water can be a red flag.
3. When was your home built?Older homes may have plumbing materials that could affect water quality.
4. Is there any farming or industrial sites near your place? Proximity to these sites can influence local water sources.
5. When was the last time you tested your water? Regular testing can help you stay informed about potential contaminants.

Your health is too important to leave to chance. Stay informed and proactive about your water quality!

Just in “government agencies tasked with protecting public health and water quality had been unable to keep pace with the spread of PFAS chemicals throughout the environment.”

Meanwhile, there are an estimated 15,000 thousand different per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals - with no exact number as it's continually climbing. Exposure to specific PFAS chemicals has also been associated with an increased risk of testicular and kidney cancer. There is no way government agencies are going to be able to keep up.

We're on a mission to make it easy for anyone anywhere to get their water tested and be in control of their water quality. There are so many variables that impact your water source, and government agencies cannot be relied on to stay across every single supply, variable and new contaminant affecting your place. The only person who can truely know if your water is up to your standard, is you.
