ACTS OF KINDNESS continues......

A few weeks ago we posted an 'act of kindness' post about Cobden local, Pam Savage who transported 641 hand-knitted items and blankets to Colac, where they were collected and taken to Melbourne to support the homeless, families in need, and children at Ronald McDonald House.
(Full story here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DFyCEBQYQ/

Most importantly !!!
A big thankyou to all the ladies that do the knitting and crocheting and those who donate yarn. There would be no project without these wonderful people.

Since this remarkable story Pam has received the most wonderful acknowledgement as detailed below:

"Dear Pam,

On Wednesday last, Nick and Tina delivered to Exodus Community the array of beautifully knitted items made by your wonderful volunteers for us to distribute. This has been a beautiful and generous way to continue the relationship begun by yourself and Br Doug many years ago.

I lived with Doug and remember well his excitement when it was time to go and meet you to collect more knits to be delivered to street folk and others here in Melbourne. Last night when we took some beanies, scarves and blankets into the Melbourne Market area where many street people gather, we felt the presence of Doug encouraging the kindness to continue. Students from Assumption College, Kilmore came and supported, offering hot drinks, something to eat as well as the knitted items.

People receiving the items were grateful and most appreciative: amazed actually when they heard where the knitted items had come from, and very thankful.

Please pass on out gratitude to all volunteers involved and assure all that these beautiful creations will find good homes. I will be taking some to Ronald McDonald House next week for distribution to those in their care. They will be delighted!

Nick and Tina brought with them a copy of the Cobden Timboon Coast Times with your story. With permission from Jodie Welsh, Director of the paper, we have sent the article to our Sydney headquarters in the hope that parts of it will be circulated, letting a wider audience know of the wonderful collaboration and work being done. We were able to include a picture of some students passing on the knits.

Be assured, Pam of our appreciation of this ongoing legacy and of the appreciation of people here in Melbourne who are benefiting from your great work!

Best wishes from grateful hearts!"

🌟 Celebrating Community with the Cobden Uniting Church Op Shop! 🌟

At the Cobden Uniting Church Op Shop, we take great pride in our broad approach to giving back. Our mission is designed to support the wider community on a truly charitable level. We are a part of Corangamite Shire and we rejoice in that!

We love being able to share our resources to help our region thrive. One of the ways we do this is by regularly donating goods to various not-for-profits, ensuring that kitchen items, books, toys, craft supplies, clothing etc go directly where they can do the most good. Just tell us when you come in that you are collecting for a not-for-profit group or having a fundraiser and we can talk about how we can help!

Every donation you make to us and every item you buy helps the Uniting Church continue its vital work in fostering a connected, supportive, and strong wider community for everyone.

Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our story and helping us spread the good word! 💙

❤️ A beautiful tradition of friendship right here in Cobden... ❤️

Over ten years ago, our wonderful local doctor, Janet van Leerdam, noticed something important: too many women living alone were missing out on the simple joy of a good night out and warm company. To change that, she created the WEL Group – "Women Enjoying Life."

A lot has changed over the last decade, and though we had to take a forced break during the tough COVID years, the beautiful spirit of this group never faded. Today, WEL is still going strong! We have moved to a lovely daytime catch-up, meeting for lunch on the LAST Wednesday of each month.

If you are a lady living on your own, please know that you don't have to spend your Wednesdays isolated. There is a welcoming table, a warm smile, and a room full of wonderful women waiting to embrace you.

No expectations, no pressure, and absolutely no need to RSVP. Just show up exactly as you are and enjoy a lovely lunch in great company.

✨ When: 12:30 PM

✨ Where: Bistro-on-Neylon, Cobden Golf Club (Neylon Street, Cobden)

We love every donation we receive, but our toys get the royal treatment! We lovingly clean every item, give our dolls a mini-makeover, and make sure their hairstyles are perfectly refreshed. We currently have an abundance of toys ready for a second life—all at wonderfully affordable prices.
