Castle Towers opened in 1979 with major retailers Kmart, Coles and Norman Ross. Acquired by QIC in 1990, the centre has seen many expansions over the years commencing with the introduction of David Jones and Franklins in 1991. In 1993, the Event Cinemas site (formerly Greater Union), was launched and Norman Ross replaced by Target. In 1999, a second Event Cinemas site opened surrounded by 44 new specialty retailers known as The Piazza restaurant precinct. In 2000, Target and David Jones launched extensions with the addition of Bi Lo and a further 76 stores. In 2001, a two-level Grace Bros (now Myer) opened together with a new fashion precinct introducing an additional 34 retail brands. 2009 welcomed more newer comers to the centre mix including an third level of Myer featuring homewares, furniture and electrical, Bed Bath N' Table, Mimco and Rebel. In 2018, the popular Kmart store relocated from its original location on level 2 to their current home on level 1. Inspired by the people of Castle Hill, how they live today and how they want to live tomorrow, in 2019 the centre embarked on the next stage of the evolution of Castle Towers. Commencing on level 1, stage one included the transformation of the former Green carpark into a seamless underground connection to Castle Hill station and transport interchange, the addition of the new metro mall, food court, vibrant Fresh Food marketplace and fully refurbished Coles. Further development works followed in 2020 with the refurbishment of the central void extending the aesthetics introduced to level 1 through the upper levels 2 and 3 in addition to a completely refreshed Piazza including the addition of all-weather roof. The centre has seen many changes over the years and will continue to transform over a series of staged developments into a destination that embraces community gathering spaces and embodies the aspirations of The Hills Community.
