So much has changed along and around me in 40 years!
Back in those days there was 5 choices for fuel, 3 or perhaps even 4 deli’s, 2 doctors surgeries, 2 butchers, a dentist and a florist.
Some shops have stayed like the chemist, fish and chips, liquor store, hair salon and news agency.
Some shops have gone like the Red Cross shop, video store, laundromat and Retravision.
I’ve been lucky that so many more new shops have come because they like me 🥰 I’m such a diverse street! Do you remember those and more?
Now look at me! You can get a physio or a massage, have breakfast, lunch or dinner, browse some antiques and pick up a dress, buy or rent a house even. If you want to live near me well you can. SO many more houses around me now, just sad about all the 🌳 gone 😞
*big street length sigh* But I’m an old street and my memory is fading. Maybe I’m not too sure what was here… Perhaps you can correct something I’ve said that’s not quite right?
One thing I’ll never forget though was the motorbike accident that set fire to the bakery facade. That sign they put out the front “the bakery might be burnt but the bread isn’t” was such a clever touch and stuck like gluten. Though I do miss that mural. Which was done well before murals became cool!
Can you remember my past? What shops did I used to have? What did I look like when I was younger? What was the gossip back in the day? I’d love to hear your stories about me and see some photos too.
It’s got me wondering… what do you think I’ll be like in 2061? I’d love to hear what you think my future might be! One things for sure, I’ll always be evolving to be a place for Carlisle people!
