Substantial rainfall across the supply area reduced numbers, but quality remained good with plenty of yearling cattle attracting strong competition from feeder buyers. Young cattle sold to a stronger trend, with coloured cattle recording some of the biggest gains. Feeder steers lifted around 30c/kg, while feeder heifers improved 30โ35c/kg.
Prime grown steers and heifers remained firm despite limited numbers. The cow run was plainer, with fewer high-yielding heavy weights on offer. Heavy cows held firm, while lighter and lower-yielding cows eased in the absence of restocker competition.
Despite the smaller yarding, demand remained strong across the young cattle categories, resulting in a positive overall market.
A total of 61 vendors sold to 37 different buyers. Of the yarding, 43% went to restockers/backgrounders, 31% to processors and 26% to feedlots. By destination, 70% stayed in NSW, 29% headed to Victoria and the remainder to Queensland.
