Hey everyone long time no post! I just wanted to give everyone an update with where I am at.
I am still doing commission work and some small stuff behind the scenes, I am still fulfilling orders through Etsy.
In regards to posting on instagram (and being on instagram in general), I have found it extremely difficult to have the energy for it. Last year was difficult in many ways and honestly found that I developed a lot of anxiety relating to by business and that was exacerbated by the use of social media.
I have found I am at my best creatively when I am just using my own brain, inspired by nature and allowed to create without the pressure of posting on social media.
I also have felt like I am not doing myself any good my posting every single thing I make, and that perhaps it’s best to save some stuff for my portfolio to show people when they are seeking a commission.

So my point is, I am here, I am making stuff, I am still taking commissions and orders but will not be posting images of them unless a) the client wishes/allows me to and b) it won’t damage my mental health. It will be on a case by case basis! I will aim to make some bigger pieces that will be available to buy once I sort out my commission back log 😅

Thank you to those who have stuck around, working full time has also just been a weird adjustment for me tbh and so I am thankful for those who still follow me and wish to see what I have to share ❤️

🎉ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY🎉

The Mystical Must Haves etsy store was launched one year ago today on the 13th of October 2021!
A lot has happened this last year for this page, I started a website (and stopped it😂), reached 1000 instagram followers, have learned many lessons (sometimes harsh) and have expressed myself creatively like I hadn’t before.
The main thing I wanted from this was the freedom to create as I wanted, if I wanted to make candles, then hell yeah I could! If I wanted to make insect art then damn right I was going too.
I have always loved taxidermy, and have been doing bone cleaning for many years prior. But last year was when I expanded into insect pinning for the first time and then this year I taught myself tanning and taxidermy.
I started off in the final stretch of degree and my art and creating things for you guys became my way to cope with the stress of uni. And although in someways it has since caused me a lot more stress, self doubt and anxiety, I wouldn’t give up what this journey has taught me about myself.
In the last year I have turned 25, finished my degree and graduated, and will start my first full time permanent job in the field I have been studying, and I appreciate EVERY ONE OF YOU that has been supportive of me during this process. And to the special people I have met through this page that continue to support me, I can’t express my thanks and love enough. Every time I considered closing this page down, you guys are the reason I stay. ❤️
From here on out as I transition to full time work, it’s more important than ever that I focus on keeping taxidermy and art a safe space for myself.
I will make things because I feel inspired, not because I feel pressured to upload products.
I am going to focus on bigger more time consuming pieces rather than big stock updates and will sell mainly through instagram/take commissions!
…but I have stock I am planning to upload for Christmas so be patient with me as I organise that!

✨Daisy✨
Introducing Daisy the duckling fawn! She lives in the fairy garden and she js nestled resting under a mossy tree. Her name was voted on by you guys! So thank you to everyone who voted or contributed a name, I always love seeing what you guys come up with 🥰
The duckling was not taxidermied by me and was sourced from .mountain ! The mini antlers were made by me and the blue glass eye was made by beadmonki.

She will be available on my Etsy in a couple of weeks time!

✨Jasper✨
Introducing this sweet boy Jasper! He is a male rat living his best life on the luscious forest floor.
The background has flowers that were collected by me and dried, with a mix of real ferns and artificial materials. I didn’t want the piece to be overly structured but I did want a bit of flow in the background so I tried my best to thoughtfully piece each element in a very intentional way. The background is made of different layers so the more you look the more you see! He will be posted on my Etsy site when I feel ready BUT if you really want him then feel free to DM me ! ($150 +postage)

This piece is designed to be wall mounted and all the natural elements have been sealed with a polyurethane spray to ensure some longevity.
This is my first “creative” piece since the beginning of July, and I wanna be really open about the fact that this was really hard for me.
I have been avoiding creative work, partly due to extreme burn out that hasaffected every aspect of my life, and partly due to never really being happy with my pieces. I am now trying to make things that I personally like, instead of catering to what I think my audience will like. But that’s also hard! I am a bit of a perfectionist but also really struggle to put things down and come back to it. This leads me to just trying to get the WHOLE piece done in one sitting, which or anyone who knows what it’s like to work with these materials, isn’t really going to work.
So this was a test for me, to really just take my time, stop when I need to stop and come back to it in my own time. This means that it’s gonna take me a lot longer to get things like this done but it’s a process I need to learn! I am still not 100% satisfied with this piece but I want to try to stop that from preventing me from showing you guys my work.

✨Argema mittrei female✨
This is the comet moth (Argema mittrei) also known as the Madagascan moon moth. This species of moth belongs to the family Saturniidae. Female comet moths have shorter tails, as the males typically have a longer tail span, and this species is known as one of the largest silk moths in the world.

⏳Website closing ⏳

After lots of thinking, I have sadly made the decision to close the mystical must haves website. The website will still be active until the 17th of September, and I will be running a 20% off sale until then.

The Etsy store will still be active and available to purchase from, and as always I am happy to take orders through direct messages.

This decision is not one I wanted to make, I am not entirely comfortable staying with etsy, and that was the main motivator for moving to the website.

Despite this, the website still costs to run, which I have to pay regardless of if I make sales or not. After having no sales on the website since July, and almost no sales in general since then, it’s costing me money I don’t have to keep the website going. I have no income atm and so the running costs of the website are affecting if I can afford basic necessities.

I am also changing the focus of mystical must haves to involve more taxidermy projects and domes, and less crystals and soaps and therefore I won’t be having restocks anymore and the website wouldn’t be updated very frequently, if it at all.

I really am going to miss the website, it was an exciting milestone to hit and I loved making the website and having a place that showcased my business.

I also want to thank everyone who has ever bought through the website and supported me, it honestly means the world and makes up for some of the hard parts about being a small business owner in a community like this.

Maybe one day in the future I can start it up again, but for now shopping will only be available via direct message or Etsy

✨Deaths Head Moth Male and Female Pair✨
This cute duo is for my own collection, but I wanted to show you guys! Pictures here is a male and female lesser deaths head moth, specifically called the Acherontia Styx. This is actually one of three species of deaths head hawk moths and are fond of honey. The female is the top moth and the male is the bottom, with the females typically averaging a larger size than the males.

This sourced is well known for being in the movie “silence of the lambs”!

🦋Morpho Menelaus Occidentalis🦋
Another stunning morpho from the menelaus species! You know what that means? This butterfly is on the bigger side with a average wing span of 6 inches.
The Occidentalis subspecies has a much more prominent black edge arising from the black apex spots compared to other subspecies. There is also prominent white spots within the black of the apex of the forewings!
