When the body experiences oxidative stress, there is a buildup of toxins and oxidants that disturb the redox balance and give the virus the opportunity to spread. This is demonstrated in a 2013 study in The Journal of Molecular science which examines why some people are more susceptible to the flu than others.
When a virus or toxin invades our cells the body’s first response is to create what is called an oxidated burst. When this happens a release of redox molecules called oxidants enable our body to recognise that there is a problem. If the body doesn’t have those redox molecules to release, it is because of our mitochondria has not been producing them, there is an imbalance in our diet, or an imbalance in our physiology. Without this balance there is no oxidated burst or signal to call in white blood cells to fight the problem.
Fortunately, we can address the problem by supplementing our bodies with redox molecules. These can be taken internally as a supplement, or applied topically on your skin. Using these tools provides important resources for the body to fight infection.
