👨‍🌾🚜 Midweek Farm Updates 🚜👨‍🌾

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re having a great week!
This week is a bit of a special one for us, as we celebrate our first anniversary of the Petrichor Farm Farmgate Stall!! 😁

What an incredible 12 months it has been. I had no idea how things would go when we first started the stall. I remember saying to Lucy, if we had even one customer on that first Sunday, I would be happy. Well to our surprise we had a lot more than one visit us, and the support has just grown…heh…since then! Our offerings were quite limited there at the beginning, with just some leafy greens, radish, bok choy, some citrus and a few little bags of tomatoes. Since then our range has increased significantly and we continue to work to bring more to our amazing customers each week.

Our humble stall began at the entrance to our driveway, under one 6x6 pergola, on a little thin slither of grass next to our bottle tree. One morning, Lucy and I were flat out serving customers and Lucy nudged me and quietly said “look”; I looked up to see that the parking area was completely full and there was a line of customers out onto the driveway! All I could say was “holy s**t” 😂
That’s when I knew we needed a larger space for the stall, which lead us to prepare the space at the old entrance to the property where the stall currently resides. A few weeks after moving to this space, you amazing people filled the carpark again 😂 so I had to expand it further. What an incredible experience having so much support for our little endeavour.

A huge shout out to the stall partners we’ve gained along the way, including Taroma Raw Honey, Wights Blooms and Bloom And Bean as well as our donation partner Everton Park Community Pantry and of course our incredible chefs from Alfreshco Catering and Government House! We love each and every one of you and can’t thank you enough for putting your trust and confidence in us.

Looking forward to the next 12 months we hope to continue to increase our offerings at the stall and hopefully bring on some more stall partners and businesses. If you’d like to see something specific at our stall, or would like to chat with us about your business becoming a part of our Sunday offerings, please reach out.
Our main focus has and will continue to be our Sunday stall and providing the best quality spray free, chemical free, organically grown, locally grown and freshly harvested fruit and vegetables we can to our local community.

Alas, this week we are aiming to stock our stall with:
- Rocket (heaps)
- Mizuna
- Spinach (heaps)
- Mustard Lime
- Sorrel
- Cos Lettuce
- Salad Bowl Lettuce
- Pak Choy
- Golden Chard
- Rainbow Chard/Silverbeet
- Spring Onions

- Oregano
- Thyme
- Dill

All our fruit and veggies are grown here on the farm, mostly harvested from 2am the morning of the stall, and handed to you with 0 road miles. We can confidently say, you will not find fresher produce unless you grow it yourself 🙂

Thanks once again to all our customers. It’s been an unbelievable 12 months of serving you and we can’t be more grateful for your love and support 💚❤️

We wish you a great end to the week and hope to see you one Sunday soon up at the stall!

Ben, Lucy and the Petrichor Farm Team

Many people asked for more footage of our massive laser!
This is a 500mw Automated Hawk Laser from Bird Off, designed and built to scare off ducks and destructive birds from crops. It has changed the game on our farm!

👨‍🌾🚜 Mid-week Farm Updates 🚜👨‍🌾

Morning everyone,

We hope you’re have a great week so far!

Here’s another farm update for you all.
Firstly, our big laser has been working like a dream. Still no ducks and no other damage from bird life in the early mornings and evenings which is great. Fingers crossed that continues! 🤞

We’ve almost got all our current beds under sow again which is exciting, although we’ve had a couple of setbacks including blight setting in to the snow peas 😭, and another form of fungi affecting the leaves of the radishes. This means bed rotations so plants that are not susceptible to those types of fungi can take over that space for a while and let the spores in the soil die out. This process can take over 12 months, so requires long term planning/changes to manage, especially in such a small growing space.

The season has been a really interesting one this year and we are already looking toward the warmer weather and what this will mean for the farm and our seasonal produce. Preparation for our warm season veggies is beginning and we hope to be able to offer lots of tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, corn, eggplant, capsicum, chilli’s, squash and more come spring and summer.

We’ve got a couple of irrigation repairs to attend to, and some new drip lines to set up on our celery bed which means the 3D printer has been going flat out building those parts. Also on the tech side of things, our first prototype of our irrigation controller is now in testing here at the farm, with the second and third revision design completed and awaiting some spare $$ to be manufactured. The second revision of our soil moisture sensor has been going strong and the iOS app for our Sonic water tank monitor has been completed (to compliment our android app) and is nearly ready to undergo field testing. Our aim for these devices is to be able to offer solutions at a much cheaper price than what already exists, solutions that work both in a small backyard with wifi and Bluetooth as well as across large distances on bigger farms using long range communication. More info to come on these as they get refined 🙂

Ofcourse though, our main aim above all else is to continue to provide our amazing community with fresh, locally grown, spray-free, chemical free, seasonal produce. We do our best every week to bring to our Sunday farmgate stall the largest range and supply of fruit and veggies we can grow here on the farm. We set up our stall every Sunday morning from 7:30am - 10:00am at the entrance to Petrichor Farm (128 Camp Mountain Road, Samford) and support purchases with cash or card.

This week we are working to offer you the choice of:
- Rocket
- Mizuna
- Mustard Lime
- Sorrel
- Spinach (lots!)
- Rainbow Chard/Silverbeet
- Golden Chard
- Salad Bowl Lettuce
- Cos Lettuce
- Bok Choy
- Giant Mustard Leaves
- Spring Onions
- Beetroot
- Tokyo Turnips
- Baby Carrots
- Snow Peas
- Corn
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Potatoes (back this week! - limited)
- Herbs - Dill, Oregano, Parsley, Thyme
- Grapefruit
- Limes
- Cumquats
- Beautiful, delicious local honey from Taroma Raw Honey
- life saving coffee and amazing breakfast options from two legends, Alex and Reece Bloom And Bean.
- a hopefully sunny and not at all windy morning with a crisp view out over the mountains 🙏

Thankyou to everyone who chooses to support local farmers and farmers in general. You don’t really realise how tough it is until you do it yourself as a full time gig. There are many great farmers around this area (and across Australia) who supply all sorts of different produce and work their butts off to do so. My hat goes off to each and every one of them!

Thanks everyone, we love you all and hope you have a great rest of the week. Please come and visit us on Sunday morning, even if it’s just to say hi and enjoy the view 😁🤝

🥦🫜🌿 Wednesday Farm Updates 🌿🫜🥦

It’s been another crazy week on the farm!
So much to do, so little time 😂😅

Heaps of tarping, bed prep, seeding, and transplanting this week. We are doing our best to have every bit of our grow space either under grow or rehab. We’ve also been focusing on slightly widening our beds and narrowing our paths, so that we can absolutely maximise the available grow space. This means a bit more work, and more compost per bed flip, but it will pay off in terms of volume.

Lots more Sun this past week has made a big difference and things are really starting to grow, including the weeds 😅 Thank god our chief weeder Sally is back onboard and keeping them honest (thankyou❤️)
That being said, we are still recovering from the duck carnage (yep checked spelling 😂), which will take some time. Why can’t they eat the weeds!?
Not a single duck has dared venture near the place though, with the laser now standing guard each night! Some photos included.

We have some beautiful lettuce, Wombok, mini cabbage, kohlrabi, purple broccoli, bok choy, Pak choy, kale, and more coming along! Also, weirdly enough, many fruit trees in our orchard are flowering again, including the avocado, limes, lemons, mandarins and our first flower from our Mulberry tree! This means potentially an extra round of fruit this season which will be gladly welcomed!

We’ve also been working on some more 3D printed ventures this week including trialing a new valve and y-split design. These are working well so far and significantly simplify our drip tape connections. We’ve also smashed out some custom designs for our seed roller, specifically for Beets and Asian greens, which should provide more accurate spacing and less thinning required than what the original “factory” rollers supply.

The Suzuki is back in operation after a new carby (3k conversion if anyone’s interested 😉 ) and a new ignition coil, although still requires some tuning to get it to idle properly. She’s a bit of a rough runner for the time being 😂

Hopefully the Suzuki can join us this Sunday at the stall where we aim to have:
- Rocket
- Mizuna (limited)
- Mustard Lime
- Giant Mustard (new this week!)
- Sorrel
- Spinach
- Rainbow Chard
- Cos Lettuce (limited)
- Pak Choy (limited)
- Bok Choy (limited)
- Broccoli
- Radish
- Tokyo Turnips
- Big Beetroots!
- Snow Peas
- Basil
- Thyme
- Dill
- Parsley
- Oregano
- Grapefruit
- Macadamia nuts
- Cumquats
- Fresh local honey from just down the road at Taroma Raw Honey

NO COFFEE this week sorry! Alex from Bloom and Bean is unable to make it this Sunday, but will be back next Sunday.

Our farmgate stall is open every Sunday from 7:30am - 10:00am (or until sold out) and we accept both cash and card. All our produce is grown here on the farm and we harvest from 2am the morning of the stall to ensure you receive the freshest veggies money can buy!
Thankyou to all our amazing customers who choose to support truly local farmers. It’s a really tough gig, but nothing is more rewarding than seeing our produce being enjoyed by our beautiful local community. We love you all and truly appreciate your ongoing support.

With that, we hope to see you this coming Sunday at the stall, and until then we wish you all a great, uplifting end to the week.

Ben, Lucy and the Petrichor Farm Team.
