We were both surprised and saddened to learn that our mates at Beach Beat surf shop around the corner had gone into administration. Surfing and fishing are both an integral part of the Sunshine Coast lifestyle and having a meeting place which is much more than a retail store is so important. Both Beach Beat and Caloundra Fishing World have been a mainstay of the retail landscape for 40 years. How can this happen? We obviously don’t know the intricacies of Beach Beat’s business but we do know that small business is tougher than ever. It’s a timely reminder that we all need to shop local and support small business otherwise case in point - you wake up one day and your favourite shop is closed. Buy local day is coming up on June 27 but we recon every day should be buy local day. Please support the little guy - you are putting food on family’s plates not lining corporate coffers. 🙏🎣
