This is a bit of an "ugly" post but with more and more messages coming through about this topic, we needed to clear some things up.
Most of you know, like many shops, we have both an eBay store as well as our personal webstore.
While we would love to have just the one online presence, it's beneficial for us to have both because it allows us to be seen in more places, especially on eBay with international customers.
You will also notice that we have different items listed on each platform. This is because we list all of our items individually so you can ensure you are getting exactly what you see in the pictures BUT it's also why we cannot offer the exact same shells on both sites, as every single shell is different. We have over 1500 products listed up at any one time.
This is a very time consuming process and it takes a lot of effort to photograph each shell from different angles and to write a description but in the interest of transparency, we do this to help you know what you're getting with no hidden surprises π
We get so many emails each week from customers asking if they can combine their orders from each platform to save on postage costs. The answer is always absolutely yes! I can remove items from eBay and move them to the website. Although the sites can't be integrated into one (this would make my life sooooo much easier) I can do it manually for you. Alternatively, you are welcome to purchase from both sites, flick me a message and I can refund the excess postage for you.
However, this is always followed up with a comment such as "since you don't have to pay the eBay fees, can I have it cheaper?". Here, the answer is no. Not because I'm trying to be greedy and mean, but as a store owner on eBay (and not just a casual seller), we pay those fees regardless as we pay for the online store itself upfront. Major store chains such as Big W, Anaconda, The Good Guys and many more, also use eBay as well as their own websites. If you wouldn't do it to them, why are we any different? In addition, when you request me to shuffle the items from eBay over to the website, this creates double the work π’
So while I would love for you to save more money, we already do this by providing cheaper items in the first place. We are constantly price checking across multiple websites to ensure our products are the most competitive based on both price and quality.
There are some benefits to shopping with us directly though. Firstly, cheaper postage. We offer a $10 flat rate charge which excludes bulky shells and orders. On eBay, the postage rates are much higher (because on postage, we DO get charged fees, ridiculous I know π). Secondly, you will find that some duplicate products are cheaper on the website. Why? Because we would like to grow the website enough to not have the two platforms so we offer cheaper items here in the hopes it encourages our customers to shop with us directly.
I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion surrounding this topic and again, I'm sorry for the messy post but thank you for reading and also supporting our small business π
