Public objection to Fairfield City Council's proposal for 'Dutton Lane Redevelopment Project'!!
** MORE SHOPS LESS CAR SPACES?!?
=> it will worsen the longstanding parking problem in Cabramatta.
***FACTS***
FCC will spend 16.3 million dollars to convert 157 existing car spaces in Dutton Lane into a three storey large shopping centre, TO OWN 3000 m2 of retail shops on ground floor, 500 m2 office

space on the first floor , provides 275 car parking spaces on first floor and top floor. In fact:

• 275 total car spaces in the new building will replace existing 157 spaces = only 118 new spaces added. However, there will be new business owners, 127 new employees in the new building according to Council's study, and other new staffs in other new completed development ( they have paid contribution (section 94) for FCC to provide their additional parking spaces requirement ) . They will use up an est. of 190 car spaces.

• CABRAMATTA WILL END UP WITH A LOSS OF AN ESTIMATION OF 190-118 = 72 CAR SPACES FOR SHOPPERS

• FCC’S $16.3 MILLION PROJECT JUST TO END UP WITH LESS CAR SPACES FOR SHOPPERS AND WORSEN THE LONGSTANDING PARKING PROBLEM IN CABRAMATTA

At present there is still in short of 300- 400 car spaces

John st has been found to be the third most lucrative street in NSW, taking in over $1M in parking fines in a 12mth period.

rd in recently jumped to 7th place (from 60th) taking in over 1/2 a million dollars in the same 12mth period.

A recent report found that it was not only the public getting fined, but many shop owners as well and there was a call for more transparency and leniency in some cases. One shopkeeper even says she was given the OK by a parking officer, only to receive a fine in the mail a few weeks later.

Fairfield City Council responded to the report by saying “Council is committed to, and has an obligation to ensuring all residents shopping in our city centres can share in the thousands of parking spaces available across the city.”

You may not realise this, but FCC differs from many other Council areas as they do not charge for on street parking.

What do you think? Too strict or necessary? Have you been fined unfairly?

I WISH TO THANK Fairfield Advance for publishing my letter and photograph relating to the streets where I live in this week’s edition. It’s a story that needed to be gotten out to the wider community.

THIS ALBUM has pics of some of the present state after receiving very recent attention. Be aware they are just a sample of the sights in the CBD. Awful but a bit safer.

THE DAMAGE AND RISKS have been present for too long. People have tripped and the amenity has a very poor look about it.

NBN HAS BEEN RESPONSIVE to reports I have made in the past but in more recent times hasn’t been so, informing me that it had been collaborating with Fairfield Council. I asked a question about it at this month’s council meeting – see the above link. It’s not enough to say it’s a NBN thing. It also is something about which our council should have been more proactive particularly when safety was a consideration.

NBN HAS WRITTEN TO ME again, stating its delivery partner has completed a walk out with the council and has ensured the site is safe and that full restoration is scheduled for approximately six weeks pending delivery of pavers. (The council needs to attend to more than the pavers affected by the NBN work.)

INSPECTION SHOWS that bitumen work has now been done and the precinct is safer to negotiate.

HOWEVER, pieces of bitumen are being trampled into shops and being caught on footwear. It would be a nice gesture if Fairfield Council would remove those pieces. Its street sweeper may not be able to do the job and another form of removal may be needed.

PLANNED CONSTRUCTION ON 23rd Feb- Dutton Lane Redevelopment:

• Council claim 127 full time and part time jobs will be created . So least 210 new parking spaces are required just for new business owners and employees

= shortage 92 spaces shortage
= more fine
