🌿 Okinawa Spinach — a little tropical garden gem! 💜

This is one of those plants I love having growing around Basilea’s garden.

Despite its name, Okinawa spinach isn’t actually spinach at all — it belongs to the sunflower family! 🌻

What makes it really stand out are those gorgeous leaves… deep glossy green on top with a vibrant purple underside. 💜💚

And there’s plenty to love about growing it:
☀️ Loves our warm weather
🌱 Hardy and low-maintenance once established
💧 Enjoys consistent moisture
✂️ Super easy to propagate from stem cuttings
🌿 Creates a lovely dense groundcover that can help suppress weeds and retain moisture

And here’s a fun one… the purple pigment contains anthocyanins that can actually turn food blue when cooked in alkaline conditions! 💙

Unlike traditional spinach, which can struggle and bolt through the heat, Okinawa spinach is right at home in a warm garden and such cute flowers too !

🏆 A very BIG Congratulations to Rachel South Art; Basilea Farm hand extraordinaire!

What a wonderful achievement ✨✨Rachel has taken out the 2026 Moreton Bay Art Prize with her beautiful work Sun-Kissed Chestnut.

Selected from 35 shortlisted artists, Rachel’s painting transforms something as familiar and intimate as hair into something truly monumental. Her incredible attention to light, detail and texture makes you stop, look… and look again.

It’s so lovely to see a talented local artist recognised in such a special way. ❤️

As a fellow local business owner, I know how much heart, creativity and hard work goes into building something of your own — so I’m especially thrilled to see Rachel celebrated.

Congratulations Rachel! 🥂🎨 What a well-deserved win!

Just look at what a few delicate basil flowers can do for a dessert! 💜

The beautiful purple blooms are such a gorgeous contrast against these vibrant strawberries, adding colour, texture and a little touch of the garden to this delicious creation.

And they’re not just pretty… basil flowers are edible, with that familiar fresh basil flavour adding another layer of interest to every bite.

Fresh herbs and edible flowers can turn a beautiful dessert into something that really catches your eye — and makes you want to grab a fork! 😍

This one certainly has me feeling like it’s time for dessert… 🍓🍰

Why not take a little drive to Bongaree, Bribie Island and make a morning of it?

Start with a delicious breakfast, brunch or coffee at Annie Lane Cafe ☕️🧇— one of our lovely Basilea Farm customers, where our fresh herbs and edible flowers make their way from our farm into their beautiful creations. 🌿🌸

Open 7am–2pm Sundays, there’s plenty of delicious food and tempting beverages to choose from.

Then, take a leisurely stroll along the Bongaree waterfront, soak up the sunshine and enjoy a little Sunday escape. 🌊☀️

Sometimes the best plans are simply good food, fresh air and somewhere beautiful to wander. 💚

Spotted my Crucifix Orchids, grown and hand-picked here at Basilea Farm, adding their little touch of magic to this beautiful creation by Wild Canary Bistro at Brookfield (West Brisbane)

This is exactly why I love growing edible flowers for chefs — beautiful colour, interesting texture, delicate detail and, of course, flavour. 🌿🌸

And the attention to detail from Wild Canary is something to admire. Every element is considered, with a focus on quality ingredients and supporting locally grown produce. 💚
