Hi guys, attached is the rules that we will be following for our Highlander Gauntlet tournaments, we are following the Highlanders Gauntlet mtg
OFFICIAL Highlander Gauntlet Tournament FAQ
(Last updated: 1/8/2024)
How many decks do I need to bring?
* Players will bring 6 decks to the tournament. These decks make up a "WHEEL."
* in the rare circumstance that a a player presents less than 6 decks for their match, the player with MORE decks in their wheel will remove decks of their choice so that both players have an equal number of decks in their wheel at the start of the match.
What are the rules for each deck?
* Each deck must be a minimum of 100 cards each.
* There can be no more than one copy of any card amongst ANY of your decks.
* (Basic lands are excluded from this limitation)
* There are NO SIDEBOARDS.
* This means that things that search for a card you own, like the "Wish" cards don't work. Same goes for things that don't exist in this format. Example would be Command Tower, while legal to play, does not tap for any mana since commanders don't exist in this format.
* Companions (that are not in your deck normally) would have to exist in a sideboard. Since there's no sideboard, you cannot use companions in this way.
What cards are allowed in the format?
* Paper MTG black border printings with the official MTG card back.
* Foils are OK.
* No "Online only" cards. All cards used must exist in paper magic and have been officially released for public purchase by the first day of the Bro Tour.
* No Un-set cards will be allowed.
* No "Heroes of the Realm" cards will be allowed. (These do not have an official MTG back and are not purchasable by the public.) You can view a partial list here:
* https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Heroes_of_the_Realm
* The banned list is the reserved list. You can see the reserved list here:
* https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Reserved_List
* Everything else including Commander, Planechase, and Conspiracy sets are all legal.
* However, the card type "Conspiracy" is banned as it falls outside the normal rules of playing magic. (Again, other cards from the set "Conspiracy" are fine to use)
* Penalty for illegal cards = game loss. Fix = replace offending cards with basic lands until end of tournament.
Are proxies OK or do I need to have all the original cards?
* Proxies are allowed provided they have ALL the information found on the card, and you use a basic land as a card back so it has the same feel as your other cards.
* This is a great site to generate proxies: https://mtgprint.cardtrader.com/
* You'll be able to fit 9 cards on a page, and then print & cut at your convenience.
What are the match rules?
* NO "Free" mulligan is allowed per game.
* London mulligan rules are in effect.
* Winner of the match is first to two game wins.
* Play/draw choice at the start of the match is decided randomly.
* Games 2 & 3, the loser of the previous game chooses to play or draw.
How are the decks used for each game decided?
* Game 1 roll a die to randomly choose which of your decks you will be playing.
* After game 1, remove the decks played from each players' wheel. These decks will not be used for the remaining games.
* Game 2 roll to see which of the remaining decks you will play.
* After game 2, remove the decks played from each players' wheel. Do not return these decks or the decks from game 1 to the wheel.
* If there is a game 3, you will randomly select from your remaining decks.
Any other important information?
* We will play Swiss style. Number of rounds and prizes will be determined at the beginning of the tournament.
* Prizes will be given for ALL PLACES, even last, so make every game count!
* We will be playing "tight" games using the MTG Tournament Rules (https://wpn.wizards.com/en/rules-documents). Players can and should point out any rules violations as necessary to keep games fair and honest. Common situations:
* 1) "Take backs" / reversing a decision are only allowed as long as no verbal or physical information has been gained.
* For example, playing the "wrong" land from your hand is immediately fixable and priority/information should not be exchanged during this action. Attacking with a flyer and then realizing your opponent has a reach creature as they move their hand towards it is gained information.

* 2) Missed triggers are 100% the responsibility of the player controlling the trigger.
* The default remedy for a Missed Trigger is for the controller’s opponent to decide whether it goes on the stack immediately or is simply missed. (Notable exceptions explained in the link below.)
