How did the idea come to mind for your book ‘You Two, You Two’ ?
When our son Patrick was born – our second – I really wanted to find a book that was a beautiful, positive wish to the universe about all the fun and adventure that our two kids could have together. I wanted something super simple, with a lovely gentle rhyme, that I could read to my kids every night before bed.
I searched and I searched but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Then, one night, during a 4am feed, the words came to me. I started writing it down mid-feed, and it flowed from there.
How did you get into writing children’s books?
I’ve always dreamed of being a children’s book author. When I was a little kid, I would sit at a typewriter all day and write, write, write.
Then I hit my teens and I started to wobble. I lost confidence. And I stopped writing.
It took many years before I built up the confidence again to write. There was something about having kids of my own that I just knew I had to do it – it was now or never. My purpose has always been about nourishing imaginations – and I knew I had to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. So I did it, and I’m so proud of how it’s all come together.
