Lamps are the most underrated room upgrade.

Not a new sofa. Not a gallery wall. Not a coat of paint. A lamp, switched on at eye level while the overhead stays off, changes the entire feeling of a space.

Warmer. Quieter. More considered. It’s the smallest change with the biggest impact.

We’ve always been lamp obsessed in our home so it was only natural that we designed one for our first product.

It’s been a while since our last YouTube update and safe to say, we’ve been a little busy.

Since September last year, we moved house, launched By Gray, packed and shipped our very first Edge Lamps, got married, found out we’re expecting baby number two, and somehow continued building By Gray with our coloured Edge Lamps, all while working full-time and chasing our little sidekick, Cali, around every day.

Looking back, it’s kind of surreal just how much life can change in such a short space of time.

It’s been exciting, overwhelming, exhausting, rewarding, and everything in between. But we wouldn’t change a thing.

We’re incredibly proud of how far By Gray has come, and it still feels like we’re only just getting started.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been deep in experimentation, exploring new materials, refining designs, and bringing sketches off the page and into reality.

This marks the beginning of the next chapter for By Gray.

While our foundations remain the same, we’re expanding our vision beyond what you’ve seen so far, creating thoughtful pieces that blur the line between homewares and functional art.

A few ideas are already taking shape, and we can’t wait to share more when the time is right.

So, what started as, “let’s add some colour,” has quickly become our biggest manufacturing challenge yet.

Getting the powder-coated finish exactly right has been a much bigger process than we ever imagined. We’ve gone back and forth with samples, refined colours, adjusted finishes and made the decision to keep pushing until we are genuinely happy with the result.

By Gray has never been about taking the quickest route. We’d much rather wait a little longer and create something we’re incredibly proud of than rush a product that doesn’t meet the standard we’ve set for ourselves.

The good news? We’re getting very close (we hope)!

If there’s one thing we’re taking into 2026, it’s more colour and more texture.

For a long time, interiors felt like they had to play it safe. Beige on beige. Everything matching perfectly. Nothing standing out too much.

But the homes we keep coming back to are the ones that feel layered. The ones with interesting materials, unexpected colours, collected objects and a little bit of personality.

A pop of butter yellow. A rich burgundy. A glossy finish. A textured fabric. A sculptural lamp maybe?

The best spaces don’t feel perfect. They feel personal!
