12:40pm - Rain & Thunderstorm Forecast For South East Queensland Tomorrow, Thursday 12/02/2026 to This Sunday 15/02/2026

It appears finally that some rain is on the way for south east Queensland in the form of showers, rain areas and the possibility of severe thunderstorms due to an inland surface trough.

By late Thursday afternoon and into the overnight hours into Friday, showers and thunderstorms look to move into south eastern Queensland. delivering moderate to heavy rainfall. However due to dry catchments due to weeks and an extended period of time without rain no flooding cause for concern is evident at this time.

The surface trough then looks to linger inland over the coming days driving moderate to heavy rain on the Darling Downs/Granite Belt and into central QLD.

On Friday rain and possible embedded thunderstorm activity is likely and a weak south easterly change moving along the south east Queensland coast on Friday looks to collide with a moist northerly and north easterly flow.

The inland surface trough then looks to be pushed further inland but the good news is the south easterly change will also bring cooler daytime temperatures for south east Queensland from Friday and across this weekend.

On Saturday showers look to continue for south east Queensland and there is the possibility of a surface trough possibly developing between Brisbane to the Fraser Coast. This surface trough could drive some moderate to heavy rainfall in areas north of Brisbane and up to the Sunshine Coast but the trough will require some assistance or support from the mid levels of the atmosphere.

On Sunday again showers look to continue before increasing into rain areas and again the potential for embedded thunderstorms. By Monday and into Tuesday we should a clearance of the wet weather.

Again some areas over the coming days will experience heavier rainfall than others, some areas will see less rainfall than others, it is just the nature of weather patterns and systems.

It's about to get windy!

One of the strongest southerly changes of the past year is set to roar across the southeast.

It should sweep along the coast mid to late morning, with gusts up around 80kph on the beaches and Scenic Rim from before lunchtime, lasting most of the afternoon. Inland gusts should be a little lighter.

The change is set to trigger widespread showers with the odd embedded thunderstorm. And it'll bring a cooler change into the afternoon which will linger on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Maybe leave the fedora and umbrella at home, and opt for a raincoat instead.
