RIP Smithy! 😥

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Robert Smith, the heart, soul and Captain of Smithy Fishing Charters and an always welcoming and knowledgable supporter of all things Game Fishing.

“Smithy” was not only a beloved Husband, Son, Father, Brother, and Friend to many in our fishing circles, but also a passionate fisherman who loved sharing the ocean with so many of you with his many years of involvement in the Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Club.

“Smithy” will be sadly missed, his family thanks everyone for your kindness and support as they navigate the days ahead and respectfully request that everyone respect their privacy as they try to deal with the grief that they now feel.

Rest in Peace Smithy.

On July 2, 1961, Leo Barboza set the IGFA Men’s 10-kg (20 lb) Line Class World Record with this massive 52.16-kilogram (115-pound) wahoo. Leo was fishing with live scad off the South Shore of Bermuda and landed this record catch after a 23-minute fight. This incredible record was landed without a steel leader and has stood the test of time!
