Did you know that Australian Rocks and Minerals is operated by the same people as Mineral Store Australia? Our indoor stall at the State Gem and Mineral Show 2024 will combine our lapidary and mineral stock to bring an exciting display to this great show.
Just for something completely different we are also going to bring a limited number of 5kg bags of mixed, uncut lapidary rough from Western Queensland. The contents are unsorted, but could contain petrified wood, petrified fern, jasper and agate. And the price? $20 for a 5kg bag!! I just randomly grabbed a piece and cut it; a magnificent small nodule of petrified wood. I’ve also included a picture of the type of material we are bringing.

Thundereggs from Agate Creek in North Queensland are predominantly thought of as red within a beige rhyolite. We’ve been sorting stock ready for the upcoming gemshows and I thought I’d post a picture of some of the variety that is present in Agate Creek thundereggs. Whilst attractive tennis ball size red ones will mostly be in our $5 and $10 trays some of the other ones will be individually priced. And we’ve usually got some nice uncut ones for you to experience the joy of being the first person to see what is inside!

Sometimes it is hard to resist buying another one! During a quick wander around Minerama at Glen Innes this morning I picked up both halves of this beautiful Agate Creek thunderegg for my own collection.

Whilst I’ve already posted this on our main page Mineral Store Australia I thought I’d post here as well. These Agate Creek Thundereggs are part of my personal collection gathered over many years and showing the variety that can be found at this iconic location. We will have some great uncut thundereggs for sale at the Lismore Gemfest this year on 20/21 May at the Lismore Showgrounds.

Disappointed to get confirmation that the North Brisbane Lapidary Club show has been cancelled for this year which means our first show will be Minerama in Glen Innes. We will be trading inside the big hall and are busy selecting some great rough to bring with us. Whilst looking around one of my rock gardens I came across this Water Dragon this morning; I wonder if he thinks he’s sitting on a real log…..either way he’s selected some nice pieces to rest on.

Whilst our main focus will be on our Mineral Store Australia stock, we will have some superb new Australian faceting rough including some larger Sapphires, garnets, and our usual great offering of Aussie topaz. And we’ve just bought a huge collection and will have some great Qld agate and petrified wood and fern.

We are busy selecting stock for the Ipswich Gemshow tomorrow (4th September). Whilst Janelle and I will be in the hall with our Mineral Store Australia stall, Joel and Abbey will be trading outside and looking to clear a whole lot of our excess Lapidary material. They’ll also have some great minerals which we’d like to clear out - lots of incredible bargains on their outside stall. We’ve got too many thumbnails so this lot will be going at a bargain price of $10 each - see them early as they will be popular.

I’ve been doing some last minute slabbing on our smallest saw, which is a 10 inch Gemmasta. This Marlborough chrysoprase isn’t as good as the outside promised but still attractive material. Come and see us for lots of great slabs.

Tempted to slab up this magnificent piece of Australian Turquoise from Ammaroo Station in the Northern Territory. Out of an old collection this weights around 1750 grams. It would make a wonderful carving piece so I’ve decided to keep it whole for now and will take it to Windsor for the National Gem and Crystal Expo next weekend.
