Welcome to Upswitch 💡Just in time for Belgrave Lantern Parade 🏮🏮🏮 See you this Saturday from 3pm for the kick off of festival activities. Facepainting at Dragon Nest Handmade Collective from 4pm. And the parade starting at around 5:15-5:30pm. Please DO NOT rock up in Belgrave after 4pm and expect to find a car park. Park in Upwey or Upper Ferntree Gully and jump on the train 🚊

🗝️ Achievement unlocked 🗝️

Okay - I’m a little bit excited about this. Today some tourists (I’m assuming that bit because I don’t think too many locals are doing this) were posing in front of our shop for photos!

There were three of them taking turns of one taking pics of the other two. So I went out to offer to photograph all three together.

They said they loved the origami flowers on the Dragon Wagon 💐

Oh - and yesterday the Arch Bishop of Melbourne popped in and prayed for our shop 🙏🏻

This shop gig is full of surprises! And excitement 😁

Our shop is now also full of these cute kids’ jumpers by capricorn fibres kids clothing I’ve popped a few of them on the website too under ‘Children’ so you can order online ✨dragonnest.com.au✨

It’s not always about the sales.

A few days ago I had two customers who took business cards to contact the makers directly.

One asked if he ordered a Cookie Candle, would pick up be at the shop and I said yes. He then said he lived far away and I said No problem - Contact the maker directly and she can post it to you!

Another was trying on the triple sterling silver ring by Green Rebel Jewellery in this pic. She was a little concerned that the size wasn’t quite right. So I told her to take a business card and contact the maker directly.

Sometimes the benefits of being in a collective or at a market aren’t always the direct sales, but building your brand, increasing exposure, and creating new leads.

Let me know if you get sick of my oversharing 😂 I’m just finding the shop journey so fascinating!

Last week was our WORST week of sales EVER. So I decided to focus on the week before which was our third BEST week of sales this year! Which I felt was really random - no celebration days coming up to buy for, the start of winter. However, it was King’s Birthday weekend. We were closed on King’s Birthday itself, and our weeks in this graph end on Sundays anyway. Whatever it was, it gave us a HUGE emotional boost to have such a great week in the middle of the year ☺️

Best week of the year so far - Mother’s Day, hands down.

And the second best was a combination of being Open Studios and the week before Easter - yes, everyone bought Easter Eggs at Open Studios 🐣

🎨 Face painting at the Belgrave Lantern Parade 🎨

Dragon Nest Handmade Collective will be open late this Saturday for the Lantern Parade. And one of our stallholders, Mischief Makers Workshop will be offering face painting out the front of our shop from 4pm.

💰 $10 shelves 💰 When we recently rearranged our shop, we added some teeny tiny shelves….that we are renting out for $10 per shelf per month (plus 10% commission on sales). Perfect for all the teeny tiny handmade products! Half of these our now rented out, but we still have space for some more teeny tiny makers! The Belgrave Lantern Parade is on this Saturday!!! And Dragon Nest Handmade Collective will be open 🌝 The Lantern Parade is always such a beautiful community night where we all come together to warm the longest night of the year and celebrate the returning of the light 🏮There will be a market, marshmallow toasting, belly dancers, fire twirlers, music, as well as the parade! A few tips - Burwood Highway needs to be cleared by 3pm so don’t park there. The actual parade starts at about 5:30pm. Don’t try to find a car park at 5pm - you will be stuck with very disappointed children in your car. Food venues will be BUSY - come and buy chocolate from us for dinner instead 😂 See you Saturday night!
