Possibly my favourite soul record. Recorded live at the Bitter End NYC in 1971. Across 2LPs, the intimacy of the shows is captured well. Curtis waxes philosophically between the downtempo tracks, and is just such a beautiful man. Although sometimes I can’t get out of my head how much he sounds like that annoying Ross from Friends (sorry if I have planted that seed) This is the original UK. You’d go along way to find a cleaner sounding copy. Message me if you need it in your life.

I know I’m preaching to the converted on this Sugar Sounds channel, but gee whiz old vinyl sounds good right? I’ve just finished listening to this unusually clean early aussie pressing and I am scraping my jaw off the floor at the end of Desolation Row. Please 🙏 As often as you can, play old vinyl. Don’t settle for Spotify. Don’t buy a reissue vinyl on the internet. Actually don’t buy this copy on the internet and give Australia Post a chance to warp it. F**k it. Thanks to Scott Cook and Pamela Mae for a gorgeous heartwarming night out in Candelo last night. Sure was a lotta love in the room!

Great to see so many folks swamp Scott for CDs in the break. If you missed Scott this time or if the queue was literally too long at the merch table, you can buy Tangle of Souls on CD or vinyl at Sugar Sounds. Sugar Sounds will be at this Sunday’s Record Fair at the Polish Club in Turner. This time in addition to the usual array of goodies in the LP format, I’ll be bringing a whole bunch of cool 7s.
