We are an odd bunch really aren’t we?! 😂

In all seriousness, I speak to a lot of people who are scared about the potential injuries mountain biking can give. Especially beginners.

The truth is most (not all) crashes are avoidable and happen when we are knowingly pushing our limits, riding too tense or riding beyond our abilities.

Many people rush into mountain biking, don’t get the basics nailed and then come a cropper when they ride trails way beyond their skill level, or get cocky and don’t fully concentrate.

With time, your skills get better, you become more experienced and so crash less. You often know when you aren’t quite riding well and can judge well what you can and can’t ride.

The more you ride, the less you crash and the less injuries you get. I think ultimately though, if you are a mountain biker, you have to accept you may injure yourself at some point. Without that, you can’t relax on the bike and ironically increase your chances of injury.

What are your views? Are MTB crashes avoidable? What lesson did you learn from your worst crash?
