NOW IN STORE AFTER HIGH DEMAND! 🎨

New Wave Posh Glass Palettes are now available in the new Grey colour at Art Parts Fine Arts Albury.

Available in two sizes:
9 x 12 inches
16 x 20 inches

Made from 1/8" tempered glass, these palettes are strong, durable and incredibly easy to clean. The smooth glass surface makes mixing colours easy, and dried acrylic paint can simply be peeled off. Dried oil paint can be removed with solvent or carefully scraped away.

The grey surface is a great choice for artists as the neutral mid-tone background makes it easier to judge colour values and temperatures accurately while mixing.

The palettes also feature protective edges to help prevent slipping and protect the glass.

Perfect for oil and acrylic painting, as well as printmaking, monoprinting and other studio applications.

Come in-store to check them out at Art Parts Fine Arts, 488 David Street, Albury.

20 NEW FABER-CASTELL POLYCHROMOS COLOURS! 🎨

Something very exciting has arrived in the world of coloured pencils!

For the first time since the 1990s, Faber-Castell has added 20 brand-new colours to the Polychromos range. This is the first major addition to the colour range in decades, making these new shades especially exciting for artists and collectors.

The new tin contains all 20 new colours, created in the same high-quality Polychromos formula that artists know and love. The pencils are oil-based, highly pigmented, break-resistant and lightfast, making them ideal for layering, blending, detailed artwork and professional use.

The 20 new shades include a beautiful mix of colours, giving artists even more options for portraits, landscapes, botanicals, animals and everything in between.

If you already own the original 120 Polychromos colours, this new set is the perfect addition to your collection and brings the range up to 140 colours.

AVAILABLE NOVEMBER — PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW!

These have already sold out in pre-orders around the country and are proving very hard to get hold of. If you want to make sure you receive a set, give us a call or come into the store and place your pre-order.

Come in-store to see the new colours on display and check out the collection for yourself.

✨ STAFF FAVOURITE! ✨

🎨 Art Spectrum Calcite — the secret ingredient for adding texture, tooth & opacity to your artwork!

So, what is it? 🤔

Calcite is a fine, dense white chalk available in powder form. Also known as marble dust, it’s a versatile addition to your studio and can be used with both oil and water-based paints.

🖌️ For oil painting: Add Calcite to oil colours to extend them, or incorporate it into gesso and traditional grounds to create a beautiful, fine tooth and subtle surface texture. Unlike perfectly smooth gesso, this added texture can give your paintings more depth and help prevent that flat, overly slick finish.

✨ For water-based paints: Calcite can act as a filler, helping to increase opacity and giving you more control over the surface and finish of your work.

With its lower oil absorbency compared to whiting, Calcite is a fantastic medium to experiment with when you want to build texture, increase opacity and take your surfaces to the next level.

💡 Staff tip: If you love experimenting with grounds, texture and surface preparation, this one is definitely worth adding to your studio shelf!

Another day of portrait painting with Dan Butterworth 🎨

Today we welcomed students from Catholic College Wodonga into the studio for a hands-on portrait painting session with Dan.

Working at scale and directly onto cardboard, students explored Dan’s loose, expressive approach to portraiture, learning through live demonstrations, experimentation and one-on-one guidance throughout the day.

This is the second group of young artists we’ve had in the studio with Dan this week, and it’s been fantastic seeing each student bring their own approach to the process.

Thank you to Dan and Catholic College Wodonga for another great day in the studio!

🎨 What a day at Art Parts Fine Arts!

A huge thank you to Dan Butterworth for bringing his energy, knowledge and passion for painting to Art Parts Fine Arts today, where he hosted a workshop with the students from Indie School Albury.

With more than 40 years of painting experience, Dan is an established artist, Doug Moran and Archibald Prize finalist, and has even appeared on the Australian version of Portrait Artist of the Year, where he painted the incredible Maggie Beer.
Known for his loose, energetic and gestural approach, Dan often works on cardboard using a limited palette of house paints. His portraiture and figure paintings—including many self-portraits—explore social, political and personal ideas, using the human figure as a powerful tool for reflection and commentary.

Today, the students got stuck in and learnt how to:

🖌️ Work at scale
🖌️ Paint with quick, expressive and gestural brushwork
🖌️ Develop confidence through experimentation
🖌️ Take advantage of one-on-one feedback
🖌️ Learn through live demonstrations from Dan

And, of course, Dan brought his signature energy to the gallery—turning up the music, lifting the atmosphere and getting everyone excited about painting! 🎶🎨
It’s always a pleasure having Dan in the gallery, and we can’t wait to welcome him back again.

ArtSpectrum mediums are RESTOCKED! 🎨

Whether you’re building up an underpainting, adding layers, or creating rich transparent glazes, there’s a medium for every stage of your oil painting process.

🖌️ Medium 1 — Lean
Our leanest medium, drying overnight and containing a balanced blend of stand oil and turpentine. Ideal for the first stage of the fat-over-lean process and perfect for underpainting.

🖌️ Medium 2 — Medium Fat
Designed for the middle layers of an oil painting, Medium 2 increases gloss and fluidity while helping your paint flow beautifully. Use it as step 2 in the fat-over-lean sequence.

🖌️ Medium 3 — Fat
A thicker, slower-drying medium for the later stages of painting. Perfect for artists who enjoy working in multiple layers. You can also add small increments to Medium 2 to increase its body and richness.

✨ Liquol / Medium 4
A quick-drying, alkyd-based transparent glazing medium that’s popular for fast-paced work. It dries in 24 hours or less and increases transparency, depth and flow—great for underpainting, block-ins and building up layers.
