To give you an idea of the cost to gold plate, the picture on the left is 30 grams of potassium gold cyanide and that runs about $4300! And it doesn’t last long with a regular plating schedule. I’m still shocked every time I get the invoice.
We do run our baths at a much higher gold content than a jewellery gold bath, as we need it stand up to being used every day. Just thought it would interest some folks.

Here's a recent rebuild for Doug Cross in the Aukland Philharmonia (thanks Doug for trusting us with your project)
We got rid of the single sided levers, as the single side lever wears unevenly , whish causes lost motion in the mechanism. The double sided spring gives it a nice action. I changed the knurls on the removable braces from my old style. He also asked for a seemed nickel hand slide crook and gave us some liberty with the ferrules, threaded leadpipe receiver, and the bends out of the valve section to bring it in a bit closer to the valve and align the circuit with the straight section of the trombone.

A recent job on a Schilke P5-4. We had to take the bell off and straighten it. Re silver plate the body and the customer wanted a gold wash bell, caps, etc.. and Abalone finger buttons.

Today was the last day for Charlie at work, as he won a job playing trombone with the South Australian police band.
Charlie has never shied away from work and almost always has a smile on his face.
Teaching him has been a pleasure.
While teaching him though, he didn’t always ask questions and sometimes turned into what I liked to refer to as “Charlie’s big adventure”.
Well, it turned out that I wasn’t the only one that noticed this in him. There was this article from when he was little in the local paper that I’ve attached, and I guess he hasn’t changed much.

Good luck Charlie on your new adventure with the Police band! They’re lucky to have you. You’ll be missed.
