Visitors from the Sydney String Centre!

For a short time only, Size Music are hosting a small range of Cellos and Violas from the Sydney String Centre, available to try and buy in store. Make the most of this limited opportunity to come and play these beautiful instruments before they sadly return home. This year, Size Music are sponsoring the Vanya Quartet as they travel to participate in the Australian Festival of Chamber Music's Pathways Program in Townsville.

The Vanya Quartet are a quartet made up of students from the Elder Conservatorium of Music, who love musical collaboration and performance. Individually, each player performs regularly with the Adelaide and Canberra Symphony Orchestras. They combine their distinctive musical personalities together to achieve a unique musical identity.

The AFCM Pathways program is a fantastic initiative which aims to further the early careers of musicians through unique opportunities provided both during and outside the festival period from international artists, delivered through lessons and masterclasses, as well as performances..

If you would also like to support this group of musicians achieve their long term musical goals, please follow the link to the Australian Cultural Fund where a fund-raiser is being held for all associated costs with the trip.

How many parts do you think instruments become when disassembled? Here we have three instruments fully pulled apart and dismantled, a flute, clarinet and baritone saxophone. The baritone is even separated at the join between the body and the bell, putting it into extra pieces!

Here instruments are pulled apart and put back together daily, so we always have instruments pulled apart in various stages.

Product of the Week:
Nicolas Deroux VI17 Violin

This violin is handcrafted with two pieces of maple for the back, the well flamed wood of the back matching the ribs and the scroll, while the top is made from a finely grained spruce. It features an ebony chinrest and pegs.

All of this contributes to the lovely full tone that this violin has, with great projection and clarity. This will help players explore the nuances of their own sound, as well as the sound of the instrument.

Pearl PMDRBEC Maesta Handmade Japanese Flute

This beautiful flute is handmade in Japan, featuring soldered tone holes, open hole keys, and a B foot. It is crafted from .997 pure silver across the entire head, body and foot.

This flute features the Calore head joint, one designed with a larger, square embouchure hole, helping to create a more powerful tone on the instrument.

Instrument Education Series 1:

Welcome to the first instalment of our new education series, where we will be talking about.......Bridges!

Bridges start of their as blanks, completely unprocessed and unshaped. They need to be fully customised to each individual instrument, perfectly matched to the curve of the belly and fingerboard, and measured to create the correct height for the strings. It takes months of training and great precision for a luthier to create good quality bridges for every instrument.

If your bridge breaks, or you need a new one, come visit our store for our highly trained string staff to create one for you!
