Remember Aaron's bike from last week?

"First proper ride this morning. Down by the beach as it was too cold to venture into the hills. Everything was great and it was wonderful to ride. Thank you again."

Happy trails, Aaron!

What's that 'ting ting ting' sound? πŸ€”

If you're riding along and hear a metallic pinging sound, stop and check out your rear derailleur. Derailleur hangers can get bent, and if the hanger is bent badly enough, your rear derailleur may actually be brushing against your spokes as you ride.

What happens if you ignore it? Then derailleur can go *into* the spokes. You might:
πŸ’₯ rip your derailleur off
πŸ’₯ tear the spokes out of the rim
πŸ’₯ end up in hospital.

So think of 'ting ting ting' as your bike firing a warning shot.

Be honest: how many of you have ridden on a 'ting ting ting' and hoped it'd sort itself out? πŸ˜…

SPARES BOX FTW πŸ˜›

Each part on Pete's Gothic Cycles gravel bike was brand new.... except for one.

Every long-term mechanic has boxes of spares: components that are too good/obscure/weird/sentimental to throw away but just might come in handy one day. Buried in Pete's hoard was this old AX Lightness Daedalus Premium carbon seatpost, waiting patiently for its day in the sun.

For the uninitiated, AX Lightness is something of a holy grail for weight weenies. Each component is handmade in Germany. AX Lightness's focus isβ€”unsurprisinglyβ€”on making parts which are as featherweight and as strong as possible. Ergo, how could the Daedalus not go on this Gothic? 😍

What's the best thing you've ever pulled out of your spares box?

🚲🚲 CYCLE FOR THE CENSUS 🚲🚲

On Tuesday 11th August, among many questions in the 2026 Census is about how you travelled to work.

Recording how people travel helps show the demand for infrastructure, and informs planning and investment.

How to do it:
🚲 If you only ride your bike to work, you can tick 'Bicycle'.
πŸšŒπŸš„If you ride your bike to the train or bus station, you can tick 'Bicycle' and 'Train' or Bus'.
