With the logo I took the eye dots from the smiley face U of Groundcover and put them inside the twisty plant. Comprised of the G and C. I made the eyes this shape to represent seeds as if sowing ideas and sharing them so others can nurture the growth, take it away with others and make it their own or give to others. The ripple effect is real and we weave our ethos into a deep global network of others that weave intersectionality into their spaces. The other slides are the two blog posts I’ve written. Trying to fill an empty website and figuring out what people need to know is a strange practice when you’re not really sure yourself.

Groundcover Subsytem is a Soundsystem that will be funded by the people, built by the people and made for the people. And by people we mean you, us…we. A speaker stack with an unshakable ethos to ruffle up and dismantle what doesn’t serve us. Working together to support a more equitable scene, access to great sound and liberating each other through community engagement and skill-sharing. Part of a bigger network and idea, helping to make the shift we want to see in this world.

Poster created from a film photo I took of some friends playing at Ancient World, sitting around and yarning. Most are a part of the fundraiser and Ancient World feels like such an important place that helps keep the undercurrent of the scene alive with no real gate keeping. Due to current neurological issues I’m struggling cognitively so actually utilised canvas to pick something that had a layout I liked then moved it over to photoshop for tweaking. In other slides are some words on the project and what to expect.

Type I made for Groundcover. I took the glyphs from a font I liked and puzzled pieces together. It took fu***ng ages but a sweet little identity grew from it. All of this was created in a rush more as a necessity. It wasn’t expected that this effort be made but I felt driven to create a solid idea of what we’re trying to do from the get go. Nice things can come from not having enough time to overthink. The logo is comprised of the C and G and took me some time to figure out how to connect them, wanting to depict growth and life like a little sentient plant.

SCREEN-PRINTING for ACE Gallery exhibition: Mark Valenzuela: Bantay-Salakay. Very keen to get down and see his work and bummed my work load has been too busy to relish in the wonders that Mark seems to be unleashing at ACE Gallery. Always love working with ACE they’re the best 🧡🧡🧡 always coming to me with screen-printing experiments to conduct and keep me on my toes. First screen-printing session in the new shed set-up. 70 shirts spiralled around me keeping me warm in the winter air.

EMPTY THREATS [PHOTO EDIT_3D PLAY] It’s no secret. Empty Threats have a new album coming out Sept 12! The album cover is a photo [by Emmaline Zanelli] of a sculpture [by FORMLESS] thrown thru a rigorous colour edit by me. I am lucky enough (out of pure forgetfulness to give it back) to be current guardian of the beautiful sculpture and decided to get a 3D capture of it. I tried LiDAR with my iPad but was underwhelmed with my efforts [slide 6]. Turns out taking 60+ photos of an object at different angles [slide 5] was a better approach and it even applied the texture/colour of the sculpture which is a trip to be able to instantly put it into Blender or Nomad and have this beautiful texture applied [slide 2]. Have also been playing with the new logo I created for the gang in 3D land. My 3D knowledge is minimal and the learning takes time but there’s only so many things we can master in one lifetime.

THREE D 97.3fm RADIOTHON MERCH DESIGN - [illustrated design with hand-drawn type] a high honour job not taken lightly. The brief was very open. One single colour, one 2 colour, for Radiothon. I’m a long time Three D radio listener and have been lucky enough to be on Passenger. I know it’s history, it’s cultural importance and that it’s amazingly volunteer run. How do you create something that reaches such a wide-spanning audience? You can see some of my concept ideas, hitting different spaces. Eventually I landed on the happy punk. Like Three D radio. They’re in their own lane, doing them, how they do it and with great confidence and stride. It was great to have a chat with Georgia Oakley that works with Three D to get some inside photos around the space, sending this great poster with a huge ON AIR sign in which I incorporated into the drawing alongside 1979 on the shirt, the year it all kicked into gear. Radiothon is on NOW! If you got the dollars go give them some by either signing up to be a supporter or buying some merch :) Big love to Three D and all who keep it alive.

BELIEVE it or not. These are two conceptual ideas out of 3 for an album cover for a beautiful human. They felt too precious to leave in the vault for no one to see. But in saying that. They are unclaimed pieces and useful ideas for the future. Sometimes I get so obsessively deep in the world I create for someone I can see these multiple portals shoot out the side of my eyes, capturing windows however I can. Sometimes I accidentally spend 10 hours drawing concepts and I know it’s not efficient but I feel like I am exploring planets of ideas and sometimes the worlds that unfold are just so fun to exist in that I really don’t mind frolicking within them for some time. While creating for others on the outside is seen as or called “work” it is also something that stems deeply from a very personal vat of flowing imagination that is a core part of who I am and what I’ve always practiced. When I get overwhelmed with work I will step back and look at my active projects and realise im working on: club posters, album covers, band merch, tv show animations and small business identities and I feel really warm in my heart with gratitude. I will share the chosen album cover when it is released 🧡💅🏼

KBH ::: explorations for Katie and her horse training business that doesn’t feel like a business much like SICKNASTY feels like an extension of me. We’re still humming on this project. Attempting to convey a certain tenderness and authenticity of approach within a field that can often be detached and brutal. A sweet gentle horse whisperer needs sweet gentle imagery. Second page is some conceptual explorations with the logo before I drew a higher definition copy. I’m not a trained artist or graphic designer so my approach is however I’ve figured out to do it. In the four years of running SICKNASTY the freelance wasn’t something I really expected. It’s continued to push my ability and skills in a way academia or education really couldn’t. The set back has always been my health, mental and physical which puts a lot of strain on my ability to deliver on time. I’ve learnt who to work for, who will be more understanding and gentle and I appreciate the generosity, patience and froth of people that pay me to create for them always. I am bringing my partner in dubstep, in life, in tiger club to the SICKNASTY world and they will operate with me and with this added support and extra brain (especially a numbers one) I know we can take it all to an efficient space I’ve always envisioned. Excited to get back into sharing collaborations with local makers and holding SICKNASTY open days at the studio for hangs, co-working, music listening and clothes browsing xx

New poster and logo for our club night DEEPTANK. Dubstep n good stuff. As I don’t really make money from making posters from myself (which is fine but I also need to pay rent and buy food) I don’t ever plan to spend too long on these pieces or overthink them. DEEPTANK posters were initially made to be slapped together but now we’ve been running the night for over a year I suppose I can understand its identity more. I wanted to create a new feel for it so created a logo for it rather than just using KC Font type: Dagsen. I used a shape generator tool online [will insert name when I find it] and exported each letter individually. Piecing them together and editing them in Photoshop. When I was happy with the shape and flow I tidied it up in Illustrator and exported vectors and PNGS. The font on the poster has a clipping mask with a picture of tree grain overlaid for nice texture. The picture in the middle is drawn on Procreate using a large watercolour brush and playing with pressure of the pen then filling in the gaps with smaller splodges. I’ve been off creating for a while due to sickness, eviction, house moving so nice to come back and feel something fresh come out. Excited to get back into the flow with banked up projects (sorry my sweet patient homies) 🧡

LEO CAP [Th] Warehouse Rave ::: this took all our juice. The community backed us and helped us bring it to life. Incredibly special night curated from love n passion. We broke even on a mammoth effort and cops only shut it down with half hour to go. A special one indeed. I wanted the poster to feel like a growth from the last seeming they were a week apart.
