The traditional birthstone for December is Turquoise. It owes its beauty entirely to its superb colour, and has been cherished for thousands of years. It was thought to have powers to ensure good health and fortune.
Turquoise played an important role in the lives of Native Americans, the Apache believing that the stone when attached to a bow or firearm made one's aim more accurate.
Turquoise is mainly found in arid regions and is basically a hydros copper aluminium phosphate with some iron.
Here is a collection of some stones that I have collected over the years, I have personally grown to like the stones with the matrix veins more than the valuable unblemished Sky-blue.
