There is perhaps a place for glossy magazines with beautiful photography, impeccable visuals and slightly dull, soulless articles written to a brief. Bland but beautiful.

But what is so much more exciting are fanzines from the DIY, punk underground, far from the sponcon, photoshoot, creative studio world trying to infect and take hold of any thriving subculture.

is one of those shining beacons of the UK fanzine world, documenting the colourful, gritty intersections of life, punk and politics. This issue covers football and, in particular, .

The format is incredible - a sheet of newsprint ripped down the middle and forced through a printer, and then folded into A5. And just £2. This is self-publishing as it should be.

Football and politics will always be entwined, whatever some melts would believe, and here are five titles where football is used as a vehicle of change, all the important with the world turning rightwards.

1) by Stewart McGill and Vince Raison ()
From the bigger clubs like St Pauli to relative minnows like Bohemians Praha and Cosenza, this is a decent overview of some of the clubs with a significant left-wing or left-leaning fanbase.

2) A PEOPLE’S HISTORY OF FOOTBALL by .correia ()
A staggering achievement - a truly accessible history of football from below that also covers histories and struggles outside of the West, such as Algeria and P*lestine

3) KICKS, SPITS AND HEADERS by Paolo Sollier ()
A unique and brilliant footballing autobiography documenting two years of an avowedly Marxist footballer plying his trade in Italy’s top two divisions amid the backdrop of the ‘Hot Autumn’ of student and workers revolt.

4) FREEDOM THROUGH FOOTBALL by Will Simpson, Malcolm McMahon ()
are a truly great grassroots club, A community-minded team from Bristol with a punk way of doing things. This is their wild history documenting their formation in 1992, the year the Premier League began, and their tours to South Central LA, P*lestine, Zapatista territory in Mexico and many others

5) RED STAR PARIS: MORE THAN JUST A FOOTBALL CLUB by
A very good personal journey of finding your club. Red Star are a storied name in French football and this book charts that history and their proudly antifascist ultras and fans trying to save the club from the dreaded 888 consortium who own and (mis)manage this priceless asset

We’ve been blessed to have met some brilliant authors since the shop has been open and lots of them have been kind enough to sign some copies for our stock. Here is a selection of what signed books we’ve got:

1) THE MBAPPÉ PROJECT by Philippe Auclair ()
The inside story of the machinations behind the rise of Kylian Mbappé. Philippe was kind enough to sign some leftover copies after the launch we hosted earlier this year.

2) LONG LIVE THE BOLEYN by Freddie Bonfanti
A beautiful photographic elegy of West Ham’s last season at the old Boleyn Ground. All copies signed by Freddie.

3) HH by Richard Fitzpatrick ()
The incredible biography of one of football’s most successful and yet most controversial characters. Another one where we’re proud to organise a launch for and take some leftover signed copies.

4) STATES OF PLAY by ()
From Abu Dhabi onto Newcastle, and onto London, Paris, Moscow and New York, this is a blistering critique of the rampant capitalist forces that have corrupted modern football irrevocably. Hosted the launch of the hardback when it came out in November 2024

5) ABOUT TO FALL APART by ()
We hosted the launch for this cracking little novel a few weeks back and what an absolute pleasure it was. I think we’ve got just 2 signed copies left so grab them while you can.

6) ORIGIN STORIES by Chris Lee ()
Chris has been kind to ask us to sell copies of his books at a couple of his book launches enough and this is the last copy we have of his magisterial country-by-country story of association football’s spread around the globe, from playing field to factory floor, from dockyard to neighbourhood.

7) THE FRYING PAN OF SPAIN by
The first book to detail the footballing history of one of Spain’s most beautiful cities and really drill down into the unique rivalry of two historic clubs.

8) WHERE’S THE MONEY GONE? by Adrian Goldberg ()
Our first event of 2026 was the launch of this great book, which is a personal journey of how English football transformed from community asset to a billion-pound global industry.

💅 One of our favourite books published in 2025 has had a glow up for 2026!

↪️ Turn your phone 90 degrees to get that full hit.

founders Suridh Hassan and Ryo Sanada spent more than two years tracking down thousands of football stickers and the tales behind them: the unlikely bond between Boavista and Aberdeen, St Pauli’s anti-fascist iconography, Sevilla’s surprising love affair with Karl Marx, and how Parma became entangled in Europe’s biggest bankruptcy scandal. Equal parts visual archive and behind-the-scenes anecdote, this is the ultimate gift for groundhoppers, quiz-night champions and anyone who clocks a football sticker on a lamppost and spends more time than is healthy thinking about the club it represents and the circumstances in which it was placed there.

Printed on premium matte-art stock and bound in linen-wrapped hardback with foil stamping. Also contains accompanying essays from and Eleanor Watson.
