"Club Dumas" is an intriguing mystery novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

I was around page 50 when I noticed that I know this story from the movie “The Ninth Gate” and I was a bit disappointed, because this movie was one of the most disappointing ones I have ever seen, the story line was good (not the same as in the book) but the acting was horrible (I couldn’t believe that a movie with Johnny Depp as the main actor could be so bad).
Anyway, back to the book;
